You could argue it's primarily for business communications, but then who doesn't have a data plan with the phone contract nowadays?
Whenever I get trains I hardly ever get mobile signal
If a Megabus coach can give me wifi then so should a train.
we have had free wifi on coaches and trains in n ireland for some years
Watch them raise ticket prices again when they introduce this.
All my buses have this, definitely useful.
I just use my mobile internet on my laptop or phone. I can't be bothered with this Free WiFi crap anymore.
We've had free wifi on commuter rail trains in Massachusetts for years. Step it up, England. It's as shitty as you would expect, though. You lose service if you go into a tunnel and most sites take about five seconds or more to load. Streaming videos is impossible even if you turn the quality down to the bare minimum. It's only useful for basic web browsing and IMing people on Skype or Steam.
I was going to come in here to mention that we've had WiFi standard on both buses and trains for years but someone's beaten me to the punch. The bus WiFi is incredibly consistent and although the speeds aren't even close to a household connection, the service is nice. Train WiFi is only as consistent as the terrain you're rumbling through unfortunately, but I think that says a lot more about the ability of WiFi as a whole rather than the trains. I mean, it's not like there's a simple way to get omnipresent WiFi on a subway car
We have wifi in trains over here, if you are able to connect at all the speed is complete shit since it's all on like one or two 3G connections.
