I don't think it's even possible for them to even do that. That would be a logistical nightmare. In order to know about every piece of data on the internet they must have a full time country of people reading everything 24/7 or have a very sophisticated AI do it for them. They would realize that a simple filter wouldn't cut it; even if they did use simple filters, the amount of data needed to be read would be terabytes of text. It's just not realistic with today's current technology.

There are also claims that the data center holds 5 zettabytes... and only costs 2 Billion USD.
This would mean that the NSA is storing 2.68 terabytes of data for the impossible price of 1 USD.

When people say "this crap is pointless." All that really does is influence even LESS people to participate, simply because they don't want to take part in something that is "pointless", and it actually WILL be at that rate.
This could make a decent sized statement if done in mass. It won't be huge, since they have (or had) unlimited funding. It's still worth a shot...

The idea is have a couple million people sending these things a few times everyday any it'll saturate their systems with additional data,which would require even more money to buy equipment to store it, and maintain it.
It's a bit optimistic, but there really isn't much else to do, unless you enjoy fighting the courts which have been actively blackmailed by the NSA and their wiretapping.

I think the premise of flooding their data collection with keywords sadly under-estimates their ability to analyze aggregate data.
All you guys complaining about this not having any effect at all need to realize that it's not supposed to. It's quick, political entertainment providing you with a few laughs and getting Vice in the spotlight.
