oh my god yes it's fucking impossible to find communities online that shares your interest but isn't a total fanatic about it. Shipping??? fuck off I don't care. Creepy fanart, creepy fanfictions like do any of these people actually like the show/movie? Or do they just like to alter the content to fit their own weird taste.
You mean you didn't enjoy all those homoerotic ZombieWaffe stories I wrote for you? woW.
no those I enjoyed...
The fan base is half of what drove me off of Homestuck (that and I didn't like the direction he was taking the story). That's why I preferred Problem Sleuth, no bullshit shipping there!
Been out in japan since 2013. and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wind_Rises#Release still counts just like Earnest and celestine is nominated too, and it isn't even out in america yet.
there's no way this would have won anyways considering all the people who do the Oscars would have been like "what is this weird asian shit? Is this the sequel to that show my kids used to watch, Dragonball-mon?" [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] The tv audience of the Oscars would also think the same

Did you all fucking forget spirited away won the oscar for best animated feature when it came out? Which is by the same goddamn studio? As if they care what soccer moms watching the oscars think about their choices I swear you people would try to find any petty reason to invalidate opinions that conflict with your own

I think this is my first post in the thread too. All I said was that obscure film (Spirited Away is from a well known director) couldn't have won anything.
when did I ever say that? I think this is my first post in the thread too. Not to mention that a number of celebrities that we may all know have also taken part in voice casting the american versions of the film?
"what is this weird asian shit? Is this the sequel to that show my kids used to watch, Dragonball-mon?"
'weird asian shit' sounds pretty ethnocentric if not, racist.

Is this the sequel to that show my kids used to watch, Dragonball-mon?"
You tried to claim that they wouldn't give the oscar to "weird asian shit", and they did. Spirited away is fantastic but it's bizarre as it fucking comes, I'd definitely bet money more so than "the wind rises" was. So honestly just admit you were wrong and deal with it.
Spirited away did win an Academy award though.
That's true, it didn't happen to the Satoshi Kon films (one of them which heavily inspired Inception) or Tekkonkinkreet though.

It's a story about how any dream no matter how beautiful can lead to ugliness, and how that dream can stay alive even as the dreamer realizes that it's doomed. It's one of the most mature and masterfully told stories in animation history and serves as the perfect capstone to the movie career of one of the greatest animation story tellers of all time. but it doesnt have disney magic or princesses and its from jap land so fuck it weird asian shit amirite oscar goes to shrek© 4 a tale of two donkies
Jeez a lot of you are really anal about princesses and love stories.

Seriously this is sad
Brave is a bad film? Huh?
Its bad because it has its plot driven in the totally wrong direction.
Jeez a lot of you are really anal about princesses and love stories.
No story is inherently bad. What is bad is when practically an entire genre is subjugated by a conglomerate and forced to churn out variants of that story to keep up it's image and all other work by smaller studios is marginalized so that that conglomerate can keep it's cultural market share. Princesses and love and magic and whatever are fine when they're integrated well into a good story, and don't get me wrong, Frozen is a good story. But there shouldn't be this insane prejudice against everything that isn't that both in the academy and in the US in general.
Did you all fucking forget spirited away won the oscar for best animated feature when it came out?

Spirited Away Ice Age Lilo & Stitch Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron Treasure Planet
It had so much competition.

Seriously this is sad
You're the one who pulled the "weird asian shit" card, don't come crying to me. There is a very narrow band of tones and story material that the academy is willing to accept. Spirited Away just so happened to fall within that band. That would be why it's the posterchild for Disney's representation of Ghibli and is the movie that's always referenced when they talk about Ghibli, even though it's hardly representational of the majority of their work. I'm glad it won, but remember that the big Disney contenders they had to beat were Treasure Planet and Lilo & Stitch. You can bet that if it there was some sort of time warp and it was put up against Toy Story 3 or Frozen it would have lost handily.
"Weird asian shit" was something Baconator said, not me. I loved spirited away and I totally think it deserved the award. You're totally losing it
Apologies, my mistake. I still stand by what I said otherwise.
Apologies, my mistake. I still stand by what I said otherwise.
That what? You feel like they have some crazed prejudice against japan despite Hayao Miyazaki having the highest amount of oscar nominations for best animation in history, and only one less win? They're a great director and they've gotten the recognition they deserve
It had so much competition.
Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet both kicked ass, to be fair. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Especially Treasure Planet. I mean, goddamn, how can you not like Treasure Planet?

And I don't think that the recognition of Miyazaki alone disproves that.
Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet both kicked ass, to be fair. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Especially Treasure Planet.
Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet both kicked ass, to be fair. [editline]3rd March 2014[/editline] Especially Treasure Planet. I mean, goddamn, how can you not like Treasure Planet?
Well, I could come up with some reasons if I wanted to. I think the main point is that there weren't any real magic princess wonder movies that year, it was all kind of even with things that academy didn't like all that much. It was a more even playing field, if you will. Which was great, really. If Disney still had a 2D studio I'd love for them to do more stuff like that.
