I wouldn't say crazed, and I would say it's more a bias against anything that isn't domestic in general, but yeah pretty much. And I don't think that the recognition of Miyazaki alone disproves that.
You could look at how most people can recite anime's from the 90's. You forget, a lot of Generation Y grew up with American and Japanese animation, as well as the tail end of Generation X.

Yeah, sure Academy awards, but that doesn't come close to cultural acceptance and while there's hostility to people who dress up and fangasm over the show. If you mention you watch some animes or something, people really don't care.

I actually think there's a lot of hope for more anime to break into the US market for that reason. That's great, and I can't wait for more people from that background to take higher positions in the industry.
The problem is that the old guard folks are still very much of the mindset that animation is a wholly 'Murican artform created and mastered by Walt Disney himself. And they're the people who decide what gets distribution and what gets marketed.
I think that for younger generations you can already see signs of anime being accepted into the general mileau with stuff like Space Dandy being broadcast in the US and Japan simultaneously. That's cool, I can't wait for more of that.
I thought the movie was pretty mediocre. I don't know why people think it's a godsend.
its likable because it's pretty much the first movie in over a decade that is chock full of "Disney magic"
The Let It Go song, if you close your eyes and imagine hard enough, kinda sounds like it could have been it's own pop song. I just don't see it as a real Disney song.
are you fucking kidding me. the music when she is making the castle is the kind of music Disney is famous for, fantasia style.

the only part of monsters inc that falls behind their later films is the technology they had to work with.

maybe i've been wrong all along
maybe hollywood isn't prejudiced, maybe they just don't have any opinions on anything
maybe they literally just vote only for the movies that have been shoved directly into their faces
