[release]TERRIFIED tourists were left dangling in a lift 124 STORIES above the ground in the world's tallest building. Visitors queuing to descend from the observation deck tower on the Burj Khalifa in Dubai heard a crash and the sound of breaking glass from a lift shaft. Dust then billowed back into the room through the small gaps in the lift shaft doors. The 15 passengers inside the lift were left stranded for 45 minutes before they were rescued by staff who dropped a ladder in and helped them to climb out to the deck. About 60 tourists who had heard the incident were left on the deck without explanation as security guards said that nothing was wrong. Explosion They were eventually joined by hysterical and dazed passengers from a second lift, who had been descending the tower when the incident occurred in the adjacent shaft. Their lift also stopped but was later safely returned to the observation deck, which was eventually evacuated via a service lift. One visitor said that the initial lift failure sounded like "a small explosion". It is still not clear whether anyone was injured. The Burj, which opened on January 4 with an extravagant firework display, was closed on Sunday after the incident. Public access to the observation deck has been halted indefinitely, leaving hundreds of disgruntled tourists queuing for refunds for what should have been a highlight of their visit to the Gulf state. What a witty pun. I hate elevators, this is the horror. While there are several horros, being stuck in an elevator is pretty horrible. 45 minutes is not so bad, but only if you know that it will be only 45 minutes. Imagine being stuck there with 15 people for 2 days.
Why close down the building, let the tourists take the stairs to the roof of the worlds tallest building, it's like a hike, fun for the whole family!

elevators have hatches in the ceiling.
Stay in America bithces

This reminds me of that man who got stuck in a elevator for 48 hours. He resorted to pissing in the corners of the elevator.
Being trapped in a small room waiting for rescue doesn't scare me a bit... ...the fact that this room is suspended hundreds of feet above the ground and could fall does.
Terrorists, I smell... TERRORISTS... :clint: Seriously, this might have been a failed terror attack. Terrorists seem to have an aversion to large, tall structures.
elevators have hatches in the ceiling.
Some you can't get to. The ones in my apartment are blocked off by this weird light thing.

I mean what if there was a fire and the elevator was broken down.
