Saying anime causes virginity is like saying watching tv shows causes fatness, totally stupid. And the title is biased as fuck. And currently japan doesn't really need higher population at all right now. I kinda see why many people wouldn't bother seeking partners. If you have a fun hobby and friends, you don't really need a partner unless you want sex or love. The title is horribly inaccurate, and is rather offensive to hikkomori, and Japanese in general. Because it basically has the unfortunate implications that: A) Anime and manga are a direct cause of lack of interest in relationships (This may be true of more pornish art styles, but that's true of porn addiction anywhere). Therefore, the logic I could use is that anime and manga are a one-way ticket to being a basement dweller, which I can easily say is not true. B) Anime and manga are somehow so important that it has this effect on Japanese youngsters. Granted, there is a heavy amount of works could compete with trashy love novels in terms of cheesiness, but it's still very short-minded to place the blame on a habit like this. If anything, it's like it was mentioned earlier. A lot of it has to do with family values, intensive amounts of pressure in various aspects of the individual's childhood, maybe even repressed sexual feelings. There can be a huge difference between how one grows up in Japan, and one grows up here in the Western world, and I personally think that's the key.

My school is getting Japanese exchange students next semester. Does that mean I could hook up with a Japanese girl who's desperate for sex but can't get any in Japan due to all the otakus?
