5 Mb/s master race!
BUT YOU MUST THINK ITS EXPENSIVE
80$ WHAT A STEAL
Going from 3.7 to 7.5 mb/s :D
Looks like my area doesn't have fibre optics, even though it is populated by 10,000 people... and I get 2mbps woopty doo.
Fuckin' KNEEEEEOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.
Shame it's going to be October 2012 - July 2013. I may be just south of Newcastle but it doesn't mean they can't hurry the fuck up. Maybe they should double their speeds of upgrading the service too.
I'm already on the 100Mbit package, but they're lowering my price by £7.50 a month AND increasing my speed to 120Mbits for free!
Go Virgin!
And I'm still stuck with 700kb/s download
yay
Im stuck with 200kb/s download..
I bet I'm the only one with the ORIGINAL pre-virgin NTL modem. :smug:

I still have my NTL modem.
I think here we're on 10mbps, no idea. I get a 1.5mb/s download rate on a good download.

Probably because my brother does nothing but watch vbloggers and play FIFA. He's your average idiot.
To be honest super high (well, relatively at least) speeds are not as exciting as you might think. I get 100Mb/s, but on Steam it'll rarely go above 5MB/s, and it's not very often you get to download any higher than that.
Doesn't mean it's useless, just don't expect to be downloading stuff in a flash at 12.5MB/s very often.
We're getting double speeds in Australia too
Except we have to pay extra
And we still won't be half as fast as you
:saddowns:

Well when you've been on a connection that'll ping pong between 300KB/s and 500KB/s for years it's exciting to get anything faster.
Usually get about 4.4MB/s on Steam now, it's nice knowing if I wanted to download a game it wont take hours upon hours, or even all day sometimes. :v:

Nope. Still have my modem, and an ntlworld email adress.

5mb/s
holy shit
Yay, I'm living in the middle of germany in a 50.000 people city and all I get is 300 kb/s down :(
You have the same speed as I do surrounded by dirt, trees, highways, dogs, gypsys, druggies, burglars and who knows what else.
If I lived a bunch of meters elsewhere, I'd probably have a much better connection. My street sucks ass.

I'm pretty sure the keyword in their advertisement is up to 100Mb/s
AT&T to halve users' Broadband Speeds for an extra $20 a month. Honestly i think this actually has happened, our cost for Uverse went up, and we are getting less speed than we pay for by a long shot. Good to see that Virgin Media is smart and actually helps customers.
EDIT: Before we upgraded to AT&T's Uverse service, we were using AT&T DSL(they are a monopoly here, if you want internet, you HAVE to use their's) and it would take an entire weekend to download a game, i spent Friday to Next Monday waiting for AVP2010 to download.
I'm gonna be on 120mb from July onwards apparently. Cool beans.

Holy fuck that's less than we pay for 12Mb in MN, why must we get shafted? :(
Meanwhile, in MingeCrab residence... a file from a UK server is being downloaded at 25kB/sec, although I do put that down to my brother who I suspect is constantly downloading shit.
3 weeks late, already a thread here: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1154633
Couldn't find anything when I searched for keyword "Virgin" through the search function, if that had come up I wouldn't have made a thread. It's so hard to find if it's already been posted seeing as the search doesn't seem to be fully working.
Virgin Media is a fucking lovely company. I was with them for internet and they were great. However, I wanted to sign up to Sky (for the tv). It worked out cheaper for me to swap over entirely to Sky (phone line, tv AND broadband), so I did. Sky was shit, their customer service was terrible and their internet was utterly useless; constant connection drops and not having the speed I was promised.
When we were changing from Virgin Media to Sky, Virgin called us and asked us if there was anything they could do, and that they were sorry they were losing us and that they would be more than happy if we ever decided to come back. After a few months of putting up with Sky broadband, we moved back to Virgin, and I've never looked back. Customer service kicks ass and it's a great company all-in-all :)
For the past 2 months my internet quality with Virgin has been terrible, half a month of +300 latency, fine for a month straight, then half a month of +300 latency. I wish they'd put half as much effort into making sure their line quality is consistent.
