you listed 7 arena shooters and half life to compare against an arcade shooter why
It's also funny imo because neither Quake or UT change very much with their sequals :v:
It's also funny imo because neither Quake or UT change very much with their sequals :v:
sure there was lots of change in UT ut2004 introduced vehicles and UT3 introduced being gears of war in all but name and play style
It's also funny imo because neither Quake or UT change very much with their sequals :v:
quake 1 is nothing like quake 2 which is nothing like quake 3 which is nothing like quake 4 which is nothing like quake wars UT is pretty similar but no-one would say UT3 was like 2004 or 99
Do they still hold the license to Zork? They should really do something with that, it could really sell to the casual crowd. If not, I'm sure Telltale could do something awesome with it

[editline]15th October 2013[/editline]
I don't mind formulas so much, but CoD isn't so much a formula as a bunch of photocopies.
What does this mean? How is Call of Duty not a formula? :v:
That solves that then. All CoD players should move to Serious Sam 3. 2007 "this decade" I'm not even a CoD fan but I just don't understand all the hate. They found a formula that works. They're sticking to it. Who cares.
Ever noticed how most modern games are gray and boring? That's because that's what call of duty does, and they recycle the same formula every year, and it makes other devs stop trying hard. CoD is crashing the video game industry a little more every november.

How exactly is Call of Duty crashing the industry? Maybe you oughta actually back your claims up.

Modern Military shooters are just the current fad, before it was WW2 shooters, and before then it was Doom clones, before then it was mascot platformers, before then it was Space Invaders and Pac-Man clones, and before then was Pong clones. Recycling a formula is how a sequel works. It wouldn't be Call Of Duty if it was a platformer starring a super-deformed rabbit.
The worst part of CoD is it's the only game with goddamn split screen! I love goddamn splitscreen so I still play it but I hate it the whole time...
What does this mean? How is Call of Duty not a formula? :v:
To continue the "formula" analogy, with most series, the developers still change the inputs they feed into the formula somewhat. Not too much between games, but still notable. CoD doesn't seem to do that. It feels like the inputs are the same, the formula's the same, and therefore the output is the same. So it always seems to me that I've played through this CoD before.

But is there really enough room in Call of Duty for any major changes? The biggest change was between Call of Duty 2 and the first Modern Warfare when they introduced customization and classes, then I guess it was when they introduced zombies in World At War. Since then the games have mostly been the same. [editline]15th October 2013[/editline] Modern Warfare 2 greatly expanded on the customization and added Spec Ops, I guess.

Fuck, now I can't call them ActiVendiIzzard anymore. I guess now it's Activizzard. Boring.
quake 1 is nothing like quake 2 which is nothing like quake 3 which is nothing like quake 4 which is nothing like quake wars UT is pretty similar but no-one would say UT3 was like 2004 or 99
ut3 was a nicer looking 2004, they did nothing to change it also you just listed ET: Quake Wars as a quake sequel haha woah what the big deal with 99 to 2004 is the vehicles, which is cool sure but that's it
ut3 was a nicer looking 2004, they did nothing to change it
adrenaline's gone, they added the betrayal gamemode pretty big changes if you ask me
how about something released this decade
Tribes Ascend and Planetside 2.
adrenaline's gone, they added the betrayal gamemode pretty big changes if you ask me
Does anyone still play UT3? I was one of the few people who liked it
Counterstrike (Any version), Battlefield (Version), etc...
Battlefield is an entirely different game that goes for the "realistic" approach with large-scale slow warfare as opposed to having a small fast-paced deathmatch. Honestly, I don't know why people insist on comparing the games.
