New US debt plans unveiled: Democrats offer to cut more than twice as much as Republicans and not to

oh yeah, sorry, multitasking right now
Too stubborn to cut welfare and social services? That's not being stubborn, that's called looking out for those who need those services.
Don't you know? Boba_Fett hates the poor and underprivileged, they're leeching off of HIS money in HIS country.
I guess this is good but I think it's more of a political move to make the Republicans look bad (like they are). I just don't like how the Democrats all the sudden come up with this to look like heroes after passing several multi-trillion dollar bills.
I guess that's why they're doing this is because they've just spent all the money they needed all at once.

Such as? The only bill that comes to mind is the Healthcare Bill, and guess who fucked that up beyond recognition? That's right, the Republicans!

I'll have to look around for a source. I just heard about it mentioned on the news a few days ago. (Before you ask, no it was not Fox News)

All of the sudden? They've suggested several different plans to relieve the debt, and all were rejected by House Republicans due to the fact that they incorporated both tax increases and spending cuts. Don't act like they're adding this one on as an after-thought to save face. That simply isn't true.
Has anyone summoned Glaber yet? No? Alrighty then.

Anyone have any realistic projections of what the country's/world's financial situation will be like should we default?

Cats and dogs living together because of unemployment.

ten years from now earth will be a barren rock scorched by nuclear hellfire
some million years later an alien race will swoop down and rate our fallen civilizations 1/10
Ten years from now the GOP will just a myth used by parents to scare their children.
They're already fucking scary.
It makes me sad how easily the Dems give in to the Republican's every single time something like this happens, They need to goddamn man up.
Only if that weird ass bitch Bachmann gets into office.
then it'll be one and a half years instead of ten

Sad thing is that the Repubs know this and abuse it to shit.
They can safely push everything to the limit because they know the Dems will give in for the people.

He's not going to show. He tried to post some lie about a majority of Americans opposing tax increases on the super-wealthy. We pointed out that the Democrats represent the majority opinion on the issue (tax increases and budget cuts) and that Republicans only line up with the opinion of about 20% of Americans on this issue. He evaporated.
I figure he'll wait until the debt ceiling gets raised (or doesn't) then come back and insist the whole thing was the Democrats' fault.
I'm patriotic to the point where it's almost unhealthy. Don't tell me I don't love my country.
You are like a mild version of Glaber.
Not even mild, just very similar.
Obviously they'll reject it,
The Republicans aren't against government spending, their against entitlements, programs which help the poor or needy.
You could cut the entire government except for social programs and they wouldn't be satisfied because it would miss the entire principle of the republicans objections.
I wouldn't call what I'm talking about abuse now that I think about it, but I'm sure a large percentage of people on welfare and unemployment benefits are more than capable of getting back in the workforce.
The issue is that for a lot of those people unemployment and welfare does better for them, and while that can be attributed to the current state of the economy, they really leave no incentive to get off of those benefits.
So, I ask, do all of those people need benefits from the government?
I think the best solution to that is to stop giving out welfare for free. Rather then just hand out money, why not put these people to work doing things that need to be done. This would not only stop people from mooching off of welfare it would also give people work experience so when they are looking for a real job they have something they can list as previous work experience.
Obama speech now.
For some reason every Republican I've met seems to think that poor people are lazy?

Except that people on welfare already have jobs, but they don't pay enough to sustain your family. If they were forced to to additional work, that would only make it worse.

Where can I view this?
Obama's speech is over now
Got a transcript?
Boehner's speech was basically, "It's Obama's fault, my plan is the one true hope for the US."

You can get free I-phones from the government. That seems a little bit more than welfare to me.
Honestly, this is why I have trouble arguing here. I'm always falsely appraised for being a conservative, and there are only a few with whom I can actually hold a respectful and decent argument with.
honestly after this shit is done and over if boehner had some sort of freak accident where he A) dies B) comatose for the rest of his life or C) severe brain damage he won't receive much sympathy from the common folk.

Here's the thing though... Obama has tried to create public jobs via various projects. He even proposed a $6 billion cross-country public train system, but republicans shot that down instantly. Despite the fact that it would have created thousands of jobs, would have resulted in a pretty good revenue over time and finally collected taxes from those workers.
If republicans were really against these entitlement programs, they would allow for job creation, not stifling it. The thing about the republican party at the moment is that they have no idea what the hell they actually want, they just want to fight whatever the democrats are promoting because it'll cost just a bit of money.
If the GOP doesn't take this deal from the democrats, it'll show just how horrible of a state the GOP is actually in, and just how much they do not belong in office at this time.

It's kind of hard to create government jobs when the country is in deep debt and everyone is calling for cuts.
Entitlement programs are a huge problem. They cost billions of dollars, and yet take in very little revenue to pay off their expenses. However, they are almost impossible to take away, as they are expected by the people, and cutting the programs out would mean that many people would be left without any source of income, which would hit especially hard in a time with such a poor employment rate. There really is no correct way to handle them and we would be ultimately better off had they never been created in the first place. It's really quite amazing that the policies of long dead presidents are causing so much trouble in the present.
Our military could also use some cuts. I wish the GOP would allow funding to be cut in the military, and the Democrats would allow funding to be cut in welfare programs.
Sadly, they're both too stubborn to do even that.
yeah let's get rid of the bush tax cuts and corporate tax loopholes. Those are the biggest entitlement programs.

BUT THEN WHO WILL GIVE MONEY TO THE REPUBLICANS?

So, uh, how are they getting these free iphones?
Giving the Republicans 98% of what they want? This is the Democrat's idea of negotiating?
