kitsch, obnoxious, lacking subtlety aren't really art rules.
i mean this isn't avant-garde art by any single measure.

well it's just you rated my dumb and said that "people who say it's terrible because it doesn't follow some "art rules" are hella dumb tbh" so i just assumed you were talking about me.
and if it doesn't follow the arbitrary rules of art it's avant-garde innit.
All of the houses are on fire
How else would you explain the bright orange glow coming from every single opening? :v:

It's just a bunch of pretty looking pictures to me. Screw your rules of art.

no i don't think you're quite getting it.
it doesn't break any rules of art or anything (moderation should be a rule) and that's not reason people dislike his art work.

id hang that in my room
Damn, that's fucking nice.
He paints beautifully, but his motives are terrible in my opinion. Not that I'd do much better, my compositions are pretty mediocre if I may say so myself, but I don't think his art is amazing regardless.
However, I'm convinced he was a good man, so I hope his family finds peace.
I fucking love colours
I fucking love detail
I fucking love disney land
This guy was the best painter ever, my world will miss him.
[editline]8th April 2012[/editline]
In fact, I think his art is fucking amazing. Art rules were put in place to restrict creativeness. I use my goddamn OPINION when I look at art. And my eyes say my opinion is good.

Yes, well at least it isn't this.
And by that I mean subtle to the point of it having absolutely no meaning without the artist explaining it.

There's no denying that the guy could draw and paint, clearly he was skilled at that. It's just the pictures have no emotion or character. There's alot going on. I hate art culture and the elitism there but to be honest his paintings are sort of lowest common denominator.
ITT: "Artists"

I'd sooner hang that on my wall than this guy's pictures.

This is like the sixties comic book of art, shit tossed on just for the sake of it being there.

rothko is brilliant
this guy's work is poor. his rendering technique and his understanding of light and value are good but his actual choices of subject and overall paintings are shit
maybe some people like blunt, cliched, cluttered composition, patriotism and disney cuteness and sure you're subjective and relative response to his art are yours and yours alone
but personally i think it's really tacky
it's like jesus please pick one thing to paint and paint it well. his paintings are crammed to bursting with really obnoxious and blatant imagery. it really is like bad highschool poetry in a visual form. this guy is probably mad popular on DA
The guy's art is so absurdly patriotic in some cases I can't help but get the feeling he had a problem with shitting out bald eagles and subsisted on nothing but apple pie and pisswater.
Not too bothered about the clutter; it's the kind of art i'll look at for a while, spot all the little details and go "ooh", then forget about. I don't quite get the level of vitriol directed at him, but nor could I consider myself a fan of his by any stretch of the word.
Just got a huge painting made by him at a yard sale for 75$
Holy hell that's a steal quite honestly.
"Painter of Light" is an awesome title.

Nah judging by some of the paintings in this thread it seems like quite a rip-off actually
You guys are posting literally his worst paintings.

The man was a fantastic painter, he came and spoke to my Art class once, he was really awesome. It's a shame he passed.
People who tell other people how art should be done are stupid. It's a reflection of a person's personality and creative expression, even if it doesn't mesh with yours doesn't mean it's not good, it might be better than yours.

My eyes are bleeding the multicolored aftermath of a Skittles factory explosion.
Holy shit this guy was crazy. Like a big FUCK YOU to the Art establishment.
He was okay I guess. My eighty year old neighbour is a much better artist and she has had zero recognition her entire life.
He's a good painter; but, its clear that his paintings were meant to match your furniture, not hold up on their own. He just painted for profit and people get angry about that for some reason.
They were a bit gimmicky too. I remember going to one of his stores at the mall (yes he has his own store at the mall) and there were a set of paintings there that reacted to the lighting of the room, ie. it would look like a sunset if the light in the room was dim. Cool, but gimmicky nevertheless.

His paintings are pretty bad. They are too cluttered and lack any sort of self control. Like that first one, it's just awash with this orange/pink hue making the house get lost in the middle of it all. I mean, you could go through and critique all of them the same way. His composition is fine, but he just douses it all in really tacky colors. It's pretty distasteful actually.
to anyone saying that this isn't art

is a moron. it may not follow all of the artistic principles you like, but it is a helluva lot better than 90% of most people out there could do.
No one responded to this earlier, but fucking christ this is literally the dumbest post in the thread.
Just because you can't paint does not mean you can't critique it. Can you direct or write screenplays? Can you make music? An authority on a subject doesn't need to know the process of making the final product.
he really fuckin loved american flags didn't he lmao

This isn't the point people are trying to get across at all. As much as I like his work, you don't have to be a chef to criticize someone's cooking.
