Seriously, now this is art
The problem with Kinkade is that his work was amazingly hollow. The vast majority of his work was but happy rainbow cottages. It became formulaic rather than having any sort of artistic worth behind them. Not to mention the only thing he really cared about was selling his stuff. Hell, he gave himself the title of "Painter of Light" That's how self centered he was. I saw a painting at an art museum called Puget Sound of the Pacific Coast, which reminded me of Kinkade if he was a better artist. There's so much more of a sense of atmosphere and discovery behind it.
:smith:
I have this in my house along with a light house one
Hm, my mother called me yesterday and told me he died. She was a big fan of his work. I was like, "Meh."
He has made one painting I like though.

There is actually some emotion in this. Only one of his paintings I can appreciate, that I've seen.
Michael Bay doesn't know subtly yet he makes a fuckton of money anyway. This man's painting aren't as bad as some people make out.

Wouldn't call myself an artsy kind of person but I really really like this one.
This guy pandered, he gave his customers what they wanted, no more/no less. Somehow I don't feel that is what art is about. McDonald's gives their customers what they want, I know I don't see any artistry in their food.
bleh, his paintings are so soulless. awful. [editline]9th April 2012[/editline] here's some actually interesting use of colour [editline]9th April 2012[/editline] jesus christ
he painted awesome looking scenery with a whole bunch of cool stuff to look at in one single painting. i dont see whats wrong with that
to anyone saying that this isn't art *Art* is a moron. it may not follow all of the artistic principles you like, but it is a helluva lot better than 90% of most people out there could do.
Arguments like that won't do. Just because I can't paint, doesn't mean I don't know what's good or not. Just like the fact that I can say what tastes good or not, even though I can't cook for shit. I find some of his paintings good, such as the en plen air "Cannery Row Sunset", but most of his paintings is like a teenagers photo, overcontrasted, attention-grabbing, and lacks a message, or depth. And like others have stated, it lacks subtly. It's in a sense "raping the eyes" :v: But may he rest in peace. After all, no one deserves to die because of bad artwork.
I didn't know FP played host to so many art snobs :v:

And she's the kind of person who, when faced with the dilemma of choosing from a street filled with fancy but well-priced restaurants, goes ten miles to find the nearest Sizzler's.
What the hell is wrong with Sizzlers?
Everything is wrong with Sizzlers when you've been running around all day in 100+ degree weather in the rain and all of the immediate surroundings are critically-acclaimed light fare at incredible prices. Also, I had Swine Flu.
man this guy could paint really nice pictures. I'll miss him, despite not actually meeting him. Rest in peace you magnificent painter.
We're all superior itt
that's such a poor attitude to have in response to legitimate critique. if anything all I see in this thread are people who both understand and appreciate art and those who gawp at rendering skill despite the artist have huge flaws both in his work and character.
its art guys you can have whatever the fuck opinion you want anyway i think this guy's stuff is awesome, who cares what's contemporary and what isnt
[img_thumb]http://www.thomaskinkadeutah.com/media/images/disney/large/bambi-large.jpg[/img_thumb] id hang that in my room
ok so is that sarcasm or not, i really can't tell because i can fucking hear that painting, that's how loud it is
ok so is that sarcasm or not, i really can't tell because i can fucking hear that painting, that's how loud it is
that painting is so in your face it reached out of my screen, killed my mother, raped my father, and rubbed crayons all over my face

hurrr he's a pretentious artist durr
Is there some kind of standard of art? I thought it was anything you could make it out to be. All this "good" art honestly looks like shit compared to "shit" art. And you can't say I'm wrong or dumb because an opinion is an opinion, to each their own.

Kinkade is a dull hack with a raging boner for Amuurriica

You're sounding pretty red right now.
I like the stuff he painted
