its art guys you can have whatever the fuck opinion you want
anyway i think this guy's stuff is awesome, who cares what's contemporary and what isnt
nobody said anything about contemporary art. if anything he's being criticized for not pushing anything and sticking in a comfort zone.
Obviously if you read the thread you'd see me critiquing his work earlier, if you must know I was being sarcastic. Kinkade is a dull hack with a raging boner for Amuurriica
it's hard to tell sarcasm when the whole thread is polarized and your post was so short
Are you implying there are people who don't have a raging boner for America?
Because that would make you a communist.
You're sounding pretty red right now.
I'm a commu-islamic-nazi art fascist

Hahahahah oh god they all look so stupid.
Ariel's got eyes like a fuckin Lucky Star character.
Yes, well at least it isn't this.
And by that I mean subtle to the point of it having absolutely no meaning without the artist explaining it.

Opinions: The Movie: The Thread
im defending the legitimacy of an artist whose work i respect as opposed to criticizing people on the basis that they are not artists and are therefore, somehow, unable to critically analyze art or something while also failing to properly feed, clothe myself + function
His work makes my eyes vomit.
Still, RIP to a very successful artist (for better or worse)
He was a good artist, but Bob Ross was far more superior.

no... the art establishment has laid down a set ground rules for art
you do not need to follow these rules; it's like the pirate code in Pirates of the Caribbean. they are more like guidelines

Takes skill to ignore the guidelines successfully though.

he didn't really ignore any guidelines.
i mean this isn't picasso.

if by successfully you mean shit perspective and painting houses like they're all on fire
seriously, look at every single house in his pictures. they've all got a fire going on inside
I've never really seen any of his work. Why is it so bad? Can anyone post examples?
They aren't bad technically, but I don't like him (and so do a lot of other people) becuase he's basically the Chihuly of the painter world. A lot of his stuff is "manufactured" instead of painted "from the heart" and he's a national icon with his branding because of it.
Almost all of his paintings are exactly the same: deal with the beautification of rural areas, and/or often have lots of hyper-nationality "AMURIKA GOD BLESS" themes, with him trying to put as much stuff on the "canvas" as possible.
He's was a good painter tehcnically, and he's done some great stuff on his own, it's just a lot of what he does was the "mass market" approach, where you buy overpriced calendars, expensive framed prints, etc of his work that was manufactured just for that purpose. I don't think anyone seriously buys the original works of his stuff at all, and it wouldn't suprise me if he didn't even keep them around, since he was basically a "for print/reproduction" artist.
Again though he's probably done some really awesome stuff on his own, I'm just talking about what he did at large and is most well known for.

I'd like to refer you guys to an earlier post of mine. http://facepunch.com/threads/1175905?p=35489697&viewfull=1#post35489697
I was in no way implying he had the skill to break the guidelines in a successful way or has broken them, quite the contrary. Please do read the thread before posting.

Trust me I'm an artist!
Don't worry though guys those artist didn't make much money, when they was alive.
My Art History professor actually laughed about his death. :|
I have an original of one of his paintings in my house.

His paintings look awfully cluttered. It's like some kid who would always doodle on his homework learned to paint.
