New York poised to ban smoking in Central Park, Times Square

Ban ban ban , ban everything.
Let them do what they want; just avoid them if you don't like it.
It sounds weird too, if you don't smoke then you miss a really interesting subculture. It is really enjoyable to just talk to the group of smokers at most events.
Millions of people smoke a pack a day, imagine all that second hand smoke in the air guys! The world rotates so the smoke from India will be over the US in a matter of hours!! :byodood:
:tinfoil:

smoker detected.
I'm all for people doing whatever they want to their own bodies, but when their habit starts affecting me, that's where I draw the line.

Everyone who supports gay rights is a homosexual.
I think it's funny when the junkies militantly defend their behavior. Sure they seem to be rational in other areas but as soon as you bring up smoking they start yelling.
I don't mind people smoking in outdoor areas as long as it's in designated park areas. I have asthma and I wheeze even if someone's smoking outdoors and it's fucked up .
Of course the junkies will defend their behavior and say it's their right to smoke even though while outdoor second hand smoke may not harm everyone, it still smells like shit and pisses off other people. It's the same rationale for noise level regulations.
No it's not the smoke can't be smelled hundreds of yards away and doesn't create a giant echo. Not allowing smoking in public buildings might be ok but if it's outside it's just as stupid as banning farting.
the people(especially in this thread) who bitch about getting allergies/irritation/whatever because of people smoking outside need to shut the fuck up

That's just plain idiotic
A subculture? That's what you call it?

Because the guy talking on the phone, the guy playing cards, the guy picking his nose and the guy cleaning his car are all slightly less interesting than the guy filling his breathing organs with toxics, which he then expells in an enourmous cloud of greyness and circles...
Too bad they smell like shit and act like such smug cocks about their chemical addiction that kills them.
Off the horse matey.

Where are kids gonna go now to smoke reefers if they can't go to the park?

Yeah fuck those people who have real health concerns :downs:

Guns kinda do pose a threat to people.
Why don't they just make designated areas for smokers in Central Park? That way non smokers can avoid it and smokers don't get their cigarettes banned in the entire park.

I have never suggested banning guns what the fuck are you on about
I violently cough and have a very hard time breathing for hours even when I walk anywhere near someone who's smoking for just a second. I support this movement entirely. If you want to smoke, do it at home. Others shouldn't have to suffer because of someone else's choices.
You're the minority who cares about you

Yeah, like they do in restaurants and bars. It works, it makes the whining smokers shut up and the whining non-smokers shut up.
they only did this to get more money
The best thing to come of this is that people won't be dropping dog ends in the parks.
Smoking banned in the entirety of planet earth - NYC still not pleased.
Fuck yeah why don't we ban anything that can cause damage to other people while we're at it. Let's ban nature itself, since that's somewhat dangeous. And it smells bad too.
Why do people give a fuck?
Before you say the following:
- It smells bad ! Industrial Size usually takes quality out of the product. Homegrown Tabaco, in my honest opinion has a wonderful smell. Musky, but tender. [/b[
- It can kill you :( ! Here do me a favor... I want you, and some friends too go into a small garage. I want one of you too smoke a cigarette. Alright. Now one of you might get cancer. Now I want you to take a car or moderate sized SUV, and rev it up for the same time it took you to smoke that cigarette. If you guys aren't dead you most likely have blacked out from the fumes. Please tell me, who's the real killer based around smoke/fumes?
- People act like cunts when smoking it! Well I'm pretty sure you would be a cunt if someone told you too play a videogame or drink a soda outside in the freezing rain.
- ADDICTION Weak minds = Weak tolerance for addictions... Shut up, and move along
I can't see why people bitch... If a smoker is in a bar smoking a ciggerate while talking to the bartender about a Gridiron(American Football) game, and a non-smoker comes into the bar, and bitches. Who the heck should leave? The smoker? I think the non-smoker needs to shut up, and get outside if he doesn't like it. Also, why should smokers be limited to stay outside? Why should a smoker be treated like a dog because he/she chooses to use a stress releif other then knocking a nosey cunt out who complains about everything that they don't do.
My twenty cents. Sorry if you guys take it the wrong way, but I can hardly do anything with anyone I know who smokes anymore because they get tossed outside whenever they pull a ciggerate, and begin walking towards the door too go smoke.
You wanna know a great story aswell? A friend of mine had his pocket rip in the mall, and his pack of cigarettes fell out, and I volunteered to hold his pack in my button down's pocket... When we went to Barnes and Nobel to go get some books I bent over, and they fell out of my pocket, and everyone who could see them freaked out, and began calling us sick bastards, smokers, and assholes because we had a pack of cigarettes which I was carrying for my friend who legally could smoke. I can see why smokers act like assholes to people. I can't fricking blame them... You guys treat them like dogs, and act like they need to be crucified for enjoying themselves.
Second hand smoke has no likely hood of causing danger. The majority of research done shows that second hand smoke has no impact on a person's health. The golden case that is often quoted to show that second hand smoke is dangerous was so badly conducted that it got thrown out by the Supreme court. It is of course still quoted because it is the only study to make any kind of argument that second hand smoke is dangerous.
The exceptions to this are babies and small children, there are a lot of studies that show second hand smoke does have a bad impact on their health. Because of this, it would make sense to ban smoking in places where children are very likely to be, like playgrounds and schools (smoking is usually banned there anyway).
In a previous thread I provided a lot of links to show this. If you're skeptical about what I'm saying, do a bit of research and you should find the same thing.
Everyone of my friends who smokes constantly tries to quit, they hate it. I don't get why people do it, stress relief's the only reasoning I get, and you can do plenty of things to relieve stress, not like smoking actually relieves stress for a lot of people. I always see mothers pissed off at their kids sucking up a cigarette in a minute or two, and still they're just as pissed off as they were before.
It's annoying to me because I never smoked, never had the desire to, and never saw reason in doing it. It's an alien concept and I'll never understand the joys of inhaling smoke.

I agree with everything except the bar argument, I don't think that smoking should be permitted at public indoor locations simply because that's the one scenario where second-hand smoke is actually dangerous - especially for the employees.

Smoking and nonsmoking sections in restaurants were pretty cool.
As a future smoker I can see why they ban indoors in places where children and such could be, but this is ridiculous.
if you need to pump smoke into your lungs in order to relax there's something wrong with you
May as well have said "I do not understand the effects of nicotine"
