I'm conservative and I always look at what the other person is looking at.
Traitor pseudo conservative*
how dare you allow yourself be told what to do
My parents are pretty moderate. My dad's a bit more conservative than my mom, but I'm fairly liberal.
I can see how this has applied to me
They haven't really defined what is 'strict' or 'authoritarian', though.
I'm Conservative, but I consider my parents to have been pretty easy-going when it came to my up-bringing.
My parents are religious and conservative but my household isn't strict. I took on their beliefs as a child and was religious and conservative up until I started heavy internet usage a few years ago. I quickly strayed from my parents ideologies because I was no longer living a one sided world.
I'm now a liberal atheist.
Still some of the stuff that comes out of my parents mouths makes me feel like I'm listening to the mentally ill.
Was raised a conservative but internet usage brought me exposure to the world and other cultures/ideologies and quickly turned that around. I was the 3rd child so my parents sort of let me get away with more things than my two older brothers. I guess they got tired of trying to control three young boys. Either way, I guess it shows as I'm easily the most liberal out of the whole family.
This, exactly this.
it's interesting how the internet liberalizes people
though i'd like to say it's because they get more "enlightened", part of me also thinks it's peer-pressure
My mother was very strict and I would go so far to say overly-protective of me where as my father didn't really give a fuck what I did so long as I did what he told me (he asked very few things of me anyway).
I believe I'm more liberal than my parents, but I definitely can't say I'm "liberal" compared to the majority of Facepunch users.
it's no wonder that being exposed to less reality gives you an unrealistic viewpoint
That's pretty harsh man.
Dad actually used to be a liberal though. He says that changed when he started paying taxes.
Someone's greedy.
I was terrified of both of my parents. They used to beat the living shit out of me (belts, sticks, fists).
I'm still a liberal. Let's just say I don't have this avatar to be ironic.
My parents are both very conservative, although they both say voting for Rick Perry was the worst mistake they've ever made :v:
I was raised in a REALLY free household. Still, I have mostly conservative ideals, and also im religious. I can't see how a conservative religious person can change their beliefs to the opposite like most of you facepunchers.
I just pick the medium of liberal-to-conservative and I like to keep my religion out of my politics.
I heard about this simple test you can do on people to know if they're more conservative or liberal without even asking them.
You have to be talking to them, and while they're listening to you talk, stray your eye contact away from their eyes, and look behind them at something for a few seconds, maybe even slow down what you're saying as if you're distracted.
If the person keeps on staring you in the eyes, they're more conservative, but if they look behind them at what you were looking at, they're more liberal.
Apparently conservatives don't like being told what to do, so they don't turn.
But conservatives are generally the 'follow all the rules' crowd. Soldiers are mostly conservative and they're always listening to authority. Conservatives like the law to be followed by the word, versus liberals who like to have the law followed by intention. Liberals are the ones who don't like being told what to do. They are the "Fuck you Mom! I'm getting that tattoo." crowd.
eh, my parents were really strict and i ended up being extreme left.
but i was more conservative when i was a teenager so welp

Maybe they expect their readers to know english, if you're all(sorry, generalizing) so hell bend on nitpicking on the article please troughoutly read it.
Psychological scientist Richard Fraley and his colleagues looked at early childhood and youth development data from the National Institute on Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). In the longitudinal study, parents of 1-month-old children answered a questionnaire, which Fraley et al. used to determine whether the parents were more authoritarian or egalitarian. (Authoritarian parents were defined as being more likely to use punishment, emphasize obedience, and have strict rules for discipline and behavior, whereas egalitarian parents were seen as less rigid and more open to their children voicing opinions and bending the rules.)
they clearly defined it as you can see, except ofcourse for strict but you'd never be done reading the morning news if every article explained every word.
My parents are asian strict, and Im a normal guy just like any of you. But then again, a lot of strict parents in China, and people there are pretty conservative
That's pretty harsh man.
tbh, no
"You know what's the solution to teen pregnancy? No sex before marriage, there no need for abortion!"
a strict parent would make sure their kids are taught sex before marriage is bad, but other kids from other parents wouldn't. this is why so many conservatives look at people with a problem and go "well it's your fault, why didn't you do what my parents taught me and not get ____?"
apply similar logic to economic status, grades, etc. it's all the concept of how there'd be no problems if you were only allowed to make certain decisions
Also one can have a conservative personality and liberal political views, or a liberal personality and conservative political views.
Oddly enough, yes. I know some.
Taxes can hurt man.
Well they have a purpose.
It's not for shit & giggles they exist.
There wouldn't be free healthcare if it wasn't for taxes.

I read Cracked.com too
My parents used to be marxist and maoist activists. Nowadays they're more democratic socialist, and so am I, though I have more social-liberal tendencies (support for legalization of cannabis, internet freedom, human rights in general).
My parents are generally pretty lax as well.
