Holy shit poachers have helicopters? I always had the mental image that they were basically land pirate riding around in old range rovers shooting at valuable animals with old Enfield rifles and AK-47's.
I always like to imagine that the great white hunter never really disappeared, and every poacher is a rich white dude who read The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber and started shooting rhinos
Because hunting them would be execution without trial. Putting them to death, even after having tried them, isn't something that we should be doing. Treat the source of poaching, because there'll always be someone else who's desperate enough to do it. Even if they know the punishment to be death.
That won't stop it. There's money to be made, people will make it, regardless. They used the same logic with the drug war, and look at how that's been going.
We should pay hunters to shoot poachers
We should pay hunters to shoot poachers
Those are called hitmen, and no.
Good to see raping the African continent is still a viable hobby for rich white people.
Why don't we just hunt poachers to even it out?
Sounds like a winning proposition. For a modest fee you can rent all the necessary equipment you need; if you kill a poacher you get to keep their weapons as trophies. Poachers get eliminated, their weapons are removed from circulation and all the profits can go towards wildlife conservation.
Why don't we just hunt poachers to even it out?
antipoaching in africa is huge actually police forces murder a loooootttt of people - both guilty and innocent
Rhino Horn sells for anywhere from $50000/kg upwards.
This is the figure I have a problem with. $50,000/kg? Thats bullshit, no one is paying that much for rhino horn, certainly at least not ACM practitioners. http://www.gcci.org/gcci/bradley.html This article suggests the real price is closer to ~$1000/kg which is a lot more realistic, as well as the target market being more realistic, that of its use in ornaments.
antipoaching in africa is huge actually police forces murder a loooootttt of people - both guilty and innocent
Kinda seems funny how you hear about all the chaos and lawlessness in Africa with barely stable governments, but they always got their Judge Dredd park rangers.
Because hunting some of the tens of thousands of Gazelle and/or Ibex is literally worse than Hitler, right?
Because bringing up hitler as a counter argument is always a sound defence right?
If the people that are buying rhino horn are dumb enough to believe it has medicinal properties, would they be dumb enough to buy "rhino horn" made out of like, ibex horns or something?
If the people that are buying rhino horn are dumb enough to believe it has medicinal properties, would they be dumb enough to buy "rhino horn" made out of like, ibex horns or something?
How do you think most of these charlatans have been working uptil now? :v: Their "genuine" rhino horn most likely is some other horn or just some powdered animal bones. A lot of "Ancient Chinese secret" people know they're peddling absolute bullshit, so why compromise on preying the gullible for all they're wor and making a good profit on it?
Because bringing up hitler as a counter argument is always a sound defence right?
Because responding to nonsense with sarcastic hyperbole is completely ridiculous, right?
