The new iPhone 6 can bend by just being put in your pocket
Ok yeah this is why I haven't upgraded my mobile device for like 3-4 years. They keep getting thinner when I literally do not give a fuck to how thin it is. I prefer it being thicker because it's less easier to break.
I want a stronger phone, and nothing makes me feel as far away as possible from that than holding the thinnest phone on the planet.
Thin as fuck + long as fuck really isn't a good combination
I've had an LG G2 for almost 6 months now, and I work in a warehouse environment. It still looks like new.
I had an old Nokia flip-phone that I used for at least 6 years, and I only got a new phone because I accidentally ran over that one, but it still powered on just fine and worked besides having broken screens.
Aren't some batteries prone to exploding if damaged in certain ways though? I've seen a few videos on YouTube of people hitting or shooting certain kinds of batteries, yielding (small but energetic) explosions. It's probably unrealistic for the battery to be damaged sufficiently for an explosion in your pocket, but it might be possible. I can't find anything about which kind of battery is in the iPhone 6, though.
Probably lithium ion or lithium polymer, neither of which are particularly friendly if they're shorted/over-heated.
the iPhone 5 also had this issue.

I have the HTC One, and I can't even find a complaint on google about the thing bending, it's made of aluminum aswell.
Apple might have chosen to use a cheap alloy, as not all aluminum is created equal.
Overpriced pieces of garbage.

I had the One for a year and it never broke.
I've had a Z2 and it cracked within a month.
Some phone designs are simply better than others. Apple and Sony seem lacking in durability while HTC and Samsung and Nokia build tanks
After using my Nexus 5 for like over 6 months, it's a little bent diagonally on the screen but bending it the opposite fixed it so I guess this phone, like the Note 3 are flexible. Still lots of creaking noises tho.

I've had an iPhone 5 since launch and trust me, it's not gonna bend like these iPhone 6+ videos. It doesn't have the same unibody design as the 6/6+
Jeez glad I made the jump to android when I did. My iPhone 5 was way better built than these new iPhones for sure.
That's another reason why I keep using my HTC 7 Mozart. Goddamn thing is almost indestructable because it's carved out from a solid piece of Not-shitty-aluminium. Been using it for 3 years now, and all I got is 3 scratches on the screen.
glanced at /b/ for shits a bit earlier and saw people trying to make more of those pics advertising 'iBend' a la those microwave charging pics

Ah, that's what I was thinking. Well, if there are any news reports of exploding iPhone 6's, I called it!
I did get the 6plus at launch and as of right now I report absolutely no problems with it. In fact, I think it is an excellent phone. I always rock it in my front pocket, but I really don't ever wear skinny jeans.
I honestly don't understand how anybody does. I wore a pair once and it felt like I was putting my boom stick in a vice grip all day.
Because most of it is blind Apple hate. Yes they have downfalls like battery life, customization and price, but they're still nice phones. With the amount of force that guy out on the phone to bend, that's ridiculous, how do you even manage that accidentally in a real life scenario?
Double standards
Mate the iphone 6 sucks industrial strength dicks, deal with it.
Because he can't bend it past it's breaking point by his own strength? sounds like iphone made a shit decision making it out of crappy aluminum.
hey, there's not reason to blame crap aluminium just yet, I'd sooner say it was shit engineering and poor QA. Their previous version was probably made of the same material, but it's shape transferred force far differently due to the "square" shape, this time the edges are rounded and cannot withstand pressure from that axis as well as before. This would have been apparent to them had they tested the form factor, hell, this would have been apparent to them had they done a simple look at a Machinists reference book (even Kraut's from like 2004 probably) and done some fucking math, apparently they didn't.
Nothing new really my iphone5 did bend by carrying it in my front pants pockets.
That's why you don't wear fucking skinny jeans with phones, lesson learned.
I've been wary of this aluminum unibody design ever since I saw the leaks. I've owned a Macbook Pro Unibody, an iPad Mini, and an iPad Air over the past three years, and all of them shared a few things in common with the new iPhones.
That's because Apple is run by cheap fucks who know millions of people will by their products for no discernible reason, just because it's Apple. You want to know why other aluminum unibody phones don't bend and bust to shit? They use the same aluminum alloy that firearm manufacturers make ARs out of, rather than the piece of shit 1050 that's basically straight fucking aluminum extruded out into sheets. Phone bodies are stamped out of the sheets, then pressed to shape, which means the manufacture of every iPhone is done in the most simple of ways. What would be the alternative? Machining out a thicker and sturdier piece of aluminum made from a stronger alloy, preferably 6061-T6 to get the most structural integrity for the lowest price.
Aluminum itself is already malleable, and heat makes it even moreso. I don't know what kind of aluminum is it, but arguably cheap enough to bend after being heated up by a couple hours of extented phone usage.
I can't be the only person who doesn't give a shit about phone specs right
I've been using an iPhone 3 since about 2008 and let me tell you hoo boy does it connect to the internet and let me send messages
I don't need very much. :v:

I meant which alloy, as they make a difference. Or is it a 100% Al case?

Actively using Facebook on iPhone 4 and under is hell. Only spec related complaint i have.
I'm waiting to see if this actually has any real world effects
it'll probably just end up like the "iPhone 5 bent in pocket" issue (aka somebody sat on their phone and the whole internet lit up with another reason to bash apple)
Jeez, I don't usually complain about modern phones being fragile because you can't really make it super tough without sacrificing specs or size (though I wouldn't mind bulkier phones), but if it bends in your pocked during normal use, you know you've fucked up bad
Wait they didn't use a stronger alloy?
For that price?
eh apple what are you doing.

What do you define as real world effects. If you mean scenarios where it happens in day to day life. Then those have already been posted.
Unless I've mistaken what you meant.

Yeah my One is nearing the end of its 2 year contract in a few months and I only have scratches and tiny dents after dropping it a few times.

get educated pls

I have an iPod Touch 5th generation that bent from light normal usage too.

only slightly but still a bend that's noticeable when you put it on a flat surface
Why buy an iPhone 6 when you can buy a phone that is bended from the start?
