• The new iPhone 6 can bend by just being put in your pocket
My issue with the One is that because of the aluminum body it slides off my lap really easily but they made up for it by making it incredibly hard to break. I dropped it a lot because of how easily it slides but I only have two or three very small chips that aren't really noticeable.
Some people have put rubber pads on the back for grip. But yeah, that's how aluminum phones are supposed to be durability wise.
Um my HTC One M7 did not bend in any way. Even if I were to apply force it would just snap if anything. It withstood more than what phones have to deal with in pockets though, it was roughed up while I was working in a warehouse for a year and it still worked fine. Why past tense? Well the headphone jack was getting a little iffy with connecting to my stuff so I had it replaced. If a phone can bend by just being in your pocket it has some serious issues.
Let's be honest, that's entirely anecdotal. I've dropped my 4S onto pavement and had it land face down at least twice, and it doesn't have any major scratches, chips, or cracks. I don't necessarily think that, just because something survives a drop like that, it's necessarily built better; the 4S is notorious for shattering. I think luck definitely plays a role in that sort of thing.
We also threw away side sliders, anyone else miss those? :(
Yeah my Sony Potato SK17a was alright
Damn, not to be that guy, but this would've pissed off Steve Jobs so fucking much if he was around to see it. I think now Apple lacks the vivacity and passion that Steve gave everything, and now the iPhone is compromising the practical function for arbitrary design elements. The phone was always intended to be an extension of its user, and now they're making it into a hasty "me too" product. That was a lot more hyperbolic than I meant it to be. Sorry. [editline]25th September 2014[/editline]
the 4S is notorious for shattering.
Perhaps, since Apple's target demographic is the everyman, they have many more careless consumers. They should really try to make the phones as idiot-proof in hardware as it is in software. Or maybe they're intentionally doing that so everyone will buy the new one in two years, in which case, genius business tactic, but total shit move.
It wants to be a flip phone!

The HTC One M7 was not perfect (purple camera flaw) but general durability was not a common issue cited. The iPhone 6nPlus bending is definitely a design flaw.

He hasn't been dead for four years. The idea and initial concepts for the 6 and 6+ would have been cleared by Steve Jobs under that timeline (maybe not exactly what we got, but the idea of "Hey, big phones are getting kind of popular. Why not build a bigger phone, and use that new design language we're working on?"), so we can't really go around saying it's post-Jobs Apple's fault. As for why the phones are so fragile, I can't speak to that. Apple tech hasn't been rugged since the move from plastic to aluminum. That's iPods, iPhones, Macs, everything. I honestly, legitimately think it's a fashion and design decision rather than anything from marketing, although I'm sure they don't mind the amount of repairs, repurchases, and profits they make off of case sales. I guess what I'm saying is it might make them money, but it's not intentionally done to make money. Then again, I don't work at Apple. I don't know what goes on in Ive's head. If I did, I'm not sure I'd want to. [editline]25th September 2014[/editline]
True, but its not a common issue or easily repeatable. If nothing else, Android phone manufacturers generally make pretty solid stuff across the board. I'm just saying we can't base our arguments on anecdotes, even if we're right. If I did that in any of my articles, I'd be out of a job.
A sturdy case like an otterbox would probably fix this. Most people put cases on their phones anyway.
Honestly, I like the plastic case of the 5S more than the metal one on the IPhone anyway. It seems to have more advantages.

Archimedes was right, it seems.
When I was walking home from work some guy in a sports car wasn't paying attention and tried to fly through a turn and accidently bumped me, I got thrown to the ground and my iphone 4 flew out of my pocket, he then reversed and ran over my phone while going around me. The only damage my phone had was some cracks in the back, the screen wasn't damaged at all and the buttons work perfectly. Looks like the iphone 6+ can't compare to their older phones when it comes to durability.
-snip-
I saw one of the videos and when he bend it I was saying ITS A FEATURE all along. But really if you want good phone get the S5 or S4
Apple released the complaint numbers for bent phones today. Nine complaints in total, according to them. So that's nice.
Apple released the complaint numbers for bent phones today. Nine complaints in total, according to them. So that's nice.
I can't tell if this means Apple's lying or if the problem's been blown way out of proportion
so i decided to go here https://www.apple.com/mac/compare/desktops.html and go by the most basic specs offered under the mac pro quadcore option, just to build the bare minimum http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qH6tkL only difference is that i tried to get a gpu that performed better in benchmarks i might be missing something but there's a $900 dollar buffer ($2098 vs $2999,) there
non ECC memory, completely irrelevant graphics cards (the mac pro has two workstation cards. not gaming cards) not to mention it won't be hitting anywhere near mac pro SSD speeds. like, that SSD is trash. your list also doesn't include things like wireless AC, dual GigE, BT4. but those things don't really cost a ton (apart from maybe AC to get the same grade of connectivity) [editline]25th September 2014[/editline] also take in to account how much smaller the mac pro is than that case. it's kind of silly of me to say you can't build one for the same or less, because you actually can (but the margin is really small, and you won't ever get down to Mac Pro size. and you'll blast past the savings if you want to get comparable SSD speeds). but the overlap between PC builders and people who buy workstation computers is very thin, these computers are absolutely not for gaming. Dell, Lenovo etc. don't offer any competitively priced options at all last time i checked. whether anyone likes it or not, the Mac Pro is very competitively priced for a workstation computer.
You shouldn't use your phone without a case, but as a product designer you shouldn't make your phone brittle enough to be bent that easily either.
I can't tell if this means Apple's lying or if the problem's been blown way out of proportion
Little bit of column A, little bit of column B.
Apple released the complaint numbers for bent phones today. Nine complaints in total, according to them. So that's nice.
That is so a lie. I know of 3 people already who have bent phones here in the Netherlands. They imported them from America, Germany, so as to circumvene the later release here. You're telling me that I know 30% of the people with bent iPhones?

Odds are the vat majority of people who bent their phones won't complain about, they might get it take in to be repaired or replaced but they won't specifically complain about it.
i have a samsung smartphone, i accidnetally let it drop while on the stairs and it fell 2 floors down it shattered on the ground seemingly, i rushed down to pick it up and what do i see: the battery is out, the back plastic cover popped out so basically, the parts that are removable were removed by shock THIS WAS ALL THE DAMAGE AKA NO DAMAGE the touch screen didnt give a fuck and still works like it did holy fuckin shit samsung
Every Nokia phone i've ever had does that, makes me wonder if it's intentional. Every time, the back cover and the battery pop out, and none the worse for wear overall.
Ah I see, but then it's pretty dishonest for people to say that "there are just 9 cases".
Its dishonest for apple as well. I think there will be lots of bent/broken phone taken in as broken, but apple won't report them, it will only report if people specifically complain about it, which they know many people simply won't do.
Every Nokia phone i've ever had does that, makes me wonder if it's intentional. Looks like they did a more scientific test over at Consumer Reports, and it seems to "disprove" the bendgate shit, at least as far as bending it intentionally in one sitting, rather than spread over weeks of sitting down with it.
It still seems like a simple accident can cause bending, and the stigma is already created for the iPhone.
I can't tell if this means Apple's lying or if the problem's been blown way out of proportion
I honestly don't see how this isn't obvious.

The other guy from "Unbox therapy" could bend the Iphone 6 plus more easily than the normal Iphone 6 with his bare hands. One of the two sources is wrong.

[editline]27th September 2014[/editline] regardless, consumer report's test is definitely more scientifically performed than his i find it kind of funny how the one m8 that people in this thread and others have been praising for having this amazing internal shell bends just as easily if not easier than the 6 in their test
