oh this is bad.
War, War never changes.
America especially needs to climb out of this recession and I feel the only way is by bringing mostly all the troops home. I feel another war would just sink us deeper in.

War gives the country and its manufacturers something to focus on, suddenly everyones producing for the war effort and ding ding ding loadsamone.

Modern example please.

Iran, while nothing to scoff at, is of little threat. The US already manufactures enough hardware that Iran would make little difference. Particularly in the event of a war instead of a limited engagement. In a war we can just napalm them. Napalm is cheap.

Even if this were to help an economy, it would help China's and Japan's more than the US'.
Iran has powerful allies; like it or not.
Russia/China will NOT come to their aid, too much to lose and damn near nothing to gain.
You say that now...
You're being foolish.
You're being foolish.
K.
I'm pretty sure that if something happens in the Middle East (either Iran attacking first, Israel going first, or even the USA) then Obama can kiss reelection goodbye. Just my opinion
You say that now...
Because total economical collapse would benefit everyone.
Chances are that war will not happen with Iran. Ironically, I'm expecting big business to be the savior in this. With the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, the distributed cost was relatively low. Companies that had no involvement in war profiteering industries really had no large incentive to protest. Unlike the previous wars, a war with Iran has a huge potential amount of distributed costs, especially considering how oil dependent almost every corporation is. My arguments is that the potential costs will be enough for big business to protest the war. I really hope I'm right about this, I mean a war with Iran would benefit very few corporations and companies at the cost of many.

Last time I checked, M1s, Super Hornets, and Nimitz Class carriers weren't made in China.
War only improves the weapon industry. It's not really a good idea to consider a war because a (unhealthily big) part of your economy may benefit from it.
Before I joined the Army, I would have been upset about hearing all this news, but now that I'm in, it makes me so fucking angry. Many of you here look at it from a politcal and economic standpoint and can only see it that way. I now see it from an emotional standpoint as I did before I joined. I may have not yet seen combat first hand, but some of my close battle buddies have. One of them I sat next to in class fought back the tears as our instructor played "Proud to be an American." He has been in for 6 years and was deployed for almost half that time. That time away from his family...his wife...his parents, friends, etc. No longer am I just a bystander in this war... No...my brothers and sisters in arms are being sent out...some to never return...all for some dumbass political agenda. One girl I met (who im kind of interested in) met here at Ft. Sam is going to Guam...a Naval staging point for Korea and the Middle East. I might not see her again...either due to sheer distance or somthing I don't want to think about...and that thought is enough to force me to fight back the tears. I joined as a medic...I want to prevent death...I don't want my battle buddies of any branch to die...
