My mother was born with this. It's genetic, so there was a larger than 50/50 chance I'd have it like her, and the same with my brother. Thankfully we don't have it, but it's still scary to think my children could be born with this.

no, this literally has nothing to do with poverty other than the fact that they can't afford treatment considering there's even been cases of members of royalty suffering from it, (it's a congenital disease, aka, genetically inherited, it could also be acquired but never to this degree), hydrocephalus is a well contemplated condition and its standard method of treatment, the cerebral shunt is standard procedure in these kind of cases. obviously the lack of treatment has lead to the child's head to become this swollen, considering she seems to be at least older than 2 years old.

what you're seeing is not her skull, it's water (cerebrospinal fluid) that is accumulating between the meninges, thus swelling her head to the point you see. it's absolutely stunning that nobody at the hospital even bothered to drain the cerebrospinal fluid at some point, and really speaks about how medical care in india is in dire need of reform.
