itt: facepunch gets mad because cannabis cafes are off limits to tourists if you go to the Netherlands just for that then you aren't welcome here.
Speak for yourself, the majority of the population seems to appose the bill and the tourism industry will be taking a hit, ruining many peoples livelihood.
Looks like I'm nether going there then.
Fuck, was planning a holiday for later this year.
The new law, which will turn coffee shops into ghost towns with membership open only to Dutch residents
Fixed
Bye,Bye tourism!
As long as they don't get rid of the women of the night!
It's almost as if Facepunchers can't enjoy life without having to resort to drugs
to prove you wrong, I'm going to stop smoking weed right now
It's almost as if Facepunchers can't enjoy life without having to resort to drugs
gj basically trying to call people addicts to weed or some shit it's not fucking heroin it's basically harmless and fantastic anyway does anyone else think it's basically discrimination to have these passes available only to residents and not tourists? I thought the same when hearing about this before they used passes (just being allowed to sell to anyone as long as they were dutch but not a tourist or something?) Why can Dutch people buy cannabis but Americans, British people or whatever can't? I know they're doing it with a pass now but the fact that it's only available for people who live there is kinda fucked to me as well I get that it's illegal in most other countries but surely if you're in a country you're under its laws not your own country's? I get that they're against smuggling it back to other countries but just smoking it there I don't see what's wrong with it.
There goes all of your Tourism income.
Is this in effect as of now? Going in August, dont want to miss out on the coffee shops.
You're missing out so much if the only reason you go to the Netherlands is because of the drugs...
Yeah I mean it's not like people enjoy smoking and then exploring the beauty of nature or anything that's way funner to do while high. They just sit in that small cafe until it's time to leave... but I agree
We are the 23%, occupy marijuana.
It's almost as if Facepunchers can't enjoy life without having to resort to drugs
the only drug i've done in the past 6 years is alcohol.
Funny how the least dangerous drug in the world is illegal, and getting cracked down on in decriminalized states, yet tobacco, the drug that kills the most people in the world and has horrible effects is legal and advertised.

This is sad, I barely ever use the stuff but I want to go to Amsterdam someday and it'd be a shame to not be able to go to the coffee shops.

Or use it, then 2 days later get arrested in their own country for being under influence of drugs.

My country is being dumb!
As a Dutch User i can say: This is not completely true. This is only for the three southern provinces, Noord-brabant, Limburg, zeeland. Amsterdam and the all the big city's in the Netherlands, still sell drugs to tourists and other people. Atleast till 2014.
Our government is more becoming shittier everyday, we need to fix the damn government.
This is quite a step backwards in my opinion. Now tourists will just get it the way that underage teens get alcohol.
I agree. It's one of those laws that really hurts the country but will take years to be undone again. I think we have too many conservatives in the government right now and too few people that care about this problem. Some nobody politician just took advantage of the political situation and proposed a bill that didn't seem like a too bad of an idea at the time.
one of my holiday plans out the window :v:
Like anyone needs your welcomes. The only thing we need from you is weed. You can't get high on welcomes.
And here we have the kind of person this ban was created for.
I thought they already did this.
It seems to me they did it for honest reasons, if people were buying weed there then going home and selling it. That's gonna make a lot of people (and by people I mean government people) unhappy. I'm willing to bet they'll lose a lot of money over this though.
Facepunch tends to swing more to the left politically and left wing people are probably more likely to smoke weed than right wing people? I don't know I didn't know facepunch loved weed
Conservative pothead and acid dropper right here.
Tobacco advertising is illegal in most countries.
Oh well that's good, wish it was illegal here.

And there goes my only reason to ever visit there
And here we have the kind of person this ban was created for.
I thought it was because of international pressure. I guess holland = baby if it's because of annoying tourists. :v
