Black Friday is becoming a thing in the UK; fight breaks out in Belfast supermarket

that's ridiculous. they're not linked by any celebratory reason but Black Friday is *always* the Friday following Thanksgiving, which is not a constant date.
I have to admit I've seen a strange bit of misplaced hatred on FP against its American members from select members too. I don't have any posts now but I've seen a fair bit of vitriol and passive aggression for Thanksgiving itself yesterday.

It's more closely related to Christmas and other such holidays. It's more of a coincidence that it has a relation to Thanksgiving.
The day's name originated in Philadelphia, where it originally was used to describe the heavy and disruptive pedestrian and vehicle traffic which would occur on the day after Thanksgiving.[5][6] Use of the term started before 1961 and began to see broader use outside Philadelphia around 1975. Later an alternative explanation was made: that retailers traditionally operated at a financial loss ("in the red") from January through November, and "Black Friday" indicates the point at which retailers begin to turn a profit, or "in the black".[5][7]
It's not like we sat down and said that it had to be after Thanksgiving; it just worked out that way.
I'll save you the rest but all I see is "MURICA HURR DURR" and it's ok for them to be flat out hateful towards my countries people, but if I say something like ALl brits have bad breath and teeth" I would get banned but you can make a mockery of black friday, which is only seen this way because of you people in the first place.
nice try, but not a single one of those posts under "heres that jealousy i was talking about" comes from a british user. but nevermind, you're quite clearly upset by the (lighthearted) jokes being made about the situation (and that it's daft that we're 'celebrating' it in britain) so i'll leave you to it.
you might also want to take a step away from the computer and a deep breath, if you're really taking this as seriously as it appears.
Black friday is the holiday where the americans celebrate Mammon.
Chances are the majority of people do not get what they originally want but buy something any way.
As a local to all of this, I sure don't get it.

If I picked some UK tradition, and ruthlessly ripped apart your citizens for partaking, you would ban me for trolling.
BTW Why is that image macro allowed, he didn't make it just for this reply, so why isn't that bannable?

As a nation in such debt that is kind of contradictory.

You Black-Friday'd my merge.
I don't know how people can degrade themselves to the point of fighting over a few bucks.

The good news is that it isn't just Americans anymore.

Mods are allowed to selectively ban users. Jesus dude, stop acting like a moron you've been here for a year. You should know how the game is played by now.

I know what he mods are allowed to do, but I thought it backed up my case for FP being pretty discriminatory to american users, since anything anti-american is allowed, even when something like that would be bannable in any other situation.
You should also know that calling out mods never works, even when they're wrong. That's rule number one. Cut it out.
Hell, even in mosh-pits people help you back up when you fall...

ho ha he ha ho
If these product displays were dead bodies then we are watching carnivores clean up the mess.
Five minutes of footage and I could put a National Geographic logo in the corner and call it educational.
This year being my first Black Friday, I found it to be very enjoyable. Went to a few retail stores and a couple malls and people wernt rabid animals. Either the media blows this shit up or I got super lucky.
Black friday's basically the hunger games for teen girls, nerds, and poor people.

The longer you think about this, the funnier it gets.
to spice things up, each store should have TV 99% off, first one to buy it gets it
the catch is, it's just in a random place in the store, you have to find it

I worked in stocking shelves on Wednesday and there were a lot of people in the store literally scouting where items were for Black Friday, not actually shopping. My coworkers and I discussed what would happen if the whole store was rearranged just before opening :v:
WTF it's a day celebrating a christian demon. What did you expect?

Imagine if it was for something that actually fucking mattered, the world would be a different place.
This is why, children, to always do your Christmas shopping online!
Yesterday at GAME was pretty orderly. Considering we had the PS4 launch, Black Friday and pay day all on one day to deal with. Worst we got was just people having a go at us cause they couldn't buy a PS4 (Even though you had 10 or so months to preorder one).
Hurrah embrace the consumer drones
lol what is wrong with consumerism, please tell me.
to be honest I have no idea why black friday wasn't already a thing, it has nothing to do with thanksgiving other than the fact that it's traditionally the day after
all black friday is is the day that retail companies aim to break even on, hence the "black" part of the name (i.e. moving from the red to the black)
I mean have fun with it I guess it wasn't that bad at best buy
Should I be surprised that there was a Black Friday fight in Ireland?
