We could actually do something by stop being dildos and actually find a better means of energy for ourselves, or making cleaner and more effective factories, etc, but too many people either don't give a shit or don't think anything can be done. I'd say we are making progress in some things, we really are, just not enough.
And whoever says peaceful protest will fix it is a pussy, no one will listen, I think actually forcing big companies to do something is the only way at this point, even if it means marching up into BP and kicking them out. I'm talking mostly out of my ass here so correct me if I'm wrong, but coral reefs of that size generally grow in shallower parts of the ocean, a lot of which has been charted, at least by locals. The deeper trenches and open ocean are where you're more likely to find new species but that doesn't seem like hospitable environments for reefs.
