ok if people don't believe me go to a shopping mall follower around a fat guy and keep calling him fat for about 5-10 minutes see if that changes anything then after you're done trying to make the world a better place ridding the world of fat people find a guy in a wheelchair and call him crippled for about 5-10 minutes and see if that changes anything
ok if people don't believe me go to a shopping mall follower around a fat guy and keep calling him fat for about 5-10 minutes see if that changes anything
And you were complaining about my "false equivalence"? Posting a joke on a forum is the equivalent to stalking and verbally harassing a person in real life. A joke which is more directed towards the people pushing "fat acceptance"
the analogy was fine it's fucking stupid to call a cripple a cripple and expect something to change like it's fucking stupid to call a fat person fat and expect something to change
This doesn't make any sense though. A person being overweight and a person with a broken leg are in completely different situations and you can't directly compare them like that. A person with a broken leg can't really help themselves. A fat person can diet (although dieting may be hard).
actually im wrong im sorry guys find a random fat person learn where he lives, where he works, where he hangs out after you learn this follow him around and constantly remind him that he's a fat fuck if you do it enough there won't be a fat person anymore and you'll make the world a better place :)
calm down, comment & analogy reviewer Deng

People don't do this lol.
What does this even mean? People don't do this lol.
It's a counterargument to the idea that somehow, telling someone they're fat will make a difference, which some people seem to believe.
What does this even mean? People don't do this lol.
no but people should do this! if we all pitch in, and constantly remind people that they're fat, they just might lose some weight! or they might just commit suicide because they're already insecure about their bodies but from what i'm hearing apparently telling a fat person that they're fat will magically make them lose weight!
what i dont get is that there are lots and lots of fat people. surely you guys all know some? i don't get how you can all still be so shitty about being fat but know some and most probably be friends with atleast one or two? like it's not like they're immigrants that you only see on the news or on your sidewalk before you tactically cross the street. these are just average friends and familiy members that everyone has, doesn't it bother you that they have to live with the idea that they're not okay and not as good as everyone else? just cos they weigh more?

They're contesting the idea that obesity is something completely divorced from personal responsibility.
all i'm seeing is epic facepunch zingers about how fat people are fat [editline]27th April 2015[/editline] gotta collect all those zinger ratings to make myself feel better
what i dont get is that there are lots and lots of fat people. surely you guys all know some? i don't get how you can all still be so shitty about being fat but know some and most probably be friends with atleast one or two? like it's not like they're immigrants that you only see on the news or on your sidewalk before you tactically cross the street. these are just average friends and familiy members that everyone has, doesn't it bother you that they have to live with the idea that they're not okay and not as good as everyone else? just cos they weigh more?
Well yes there are a lot of fat people around, many of them often being friends and family (especially since there are more fat people than ever now). But it's also a fact that fat people generally tend to be unhealthier, live shorter lives, and are at a higher risk for a whole multitude of both physical and mental ailments ranging from heart disease to depression. I haven't been insulting fat people in this thread, but the facts remain that heavier people aren't living well, and that while important socioeconomic changes factor into the increasing rates of obesity in recent years, that we cannot entirely exclude personal responsibility.
i don't think anyone here is denying that obesity is bad for your health im denying the ideology that calling someone fat will magically convince them that they're fat
removing stigma AND helping people reach self-actualization, even if that means being ok with one's body no matter what shape it's in, is and should be the ultimate goal being happy with oneself, and not comparing oneself to ungodly high standards, can take so much undue stress and just general horrible feelings away but man I can always count on facepunch to openly mock fat people whenever the slightest hint of them is noticed
fuck man you basically said the stuff my brain's too stupid to put into good words! wicked!

The only thing being said is that insults and shaming make things worse.
You know, I'm just going to do the mature thing and concede because you guys aren't going to change my point of view, and I won't change yours Sorry if I pissed anyone with my opinions
you weren't pissing anyone off i don't think. you seem like a good sort.
i don't think anyone here is denying that obesity is bad for your health im denying the ideology that calling someone fat will magically convince them that they're fat
Honestly I know people who've lost weight partly because of the social stigma towards being fat
Honestly I know people who've lost weight partly because of the social stigma towards being fat
are you implying that works for everyone because that's silly if you think that works for everyone you can force people to do things if you're a cunt but depending on the type of person you are, it could make it worse
are you implying that works for everyone because that's silly if you think that works for everyone you can force people to do things if you're a cunt but depending on the type of person you are, it could make it worse
Nope! I said some friends. Purely anecdotal. I never said forcing someone to do something either! [editline]27th April 2015[/editline] Simmer down
and also that that poster is bad!
What?
Nope! I said some friends. Purely anecdotal. I never said forcing someone to do something either! [editline]27th April 2015[/editline] Simmer down
yeah it may work with friends but we're kind on the topic about how society views people who are obese? i'm just saying you can get certain things done if you're an outright cunt about it but it barely works with certain types of people, but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do
i personally think that it is a bad idea to tell someone it is totally fine that they're fat if they are specifically looking for validation that it is okay that they're fat. i'm not talking about someone who is kind of chubby, rather someone whose weight is a definite health risk. however, i wouldn't mention or talk about it unless they asked for my opinion.

I myself have never told someone they're a fat fuck or anything like that. I guess what I should be saying is that if someone's who's unhealthy because of their obesity is looking for acceptance or some kind of validation that they're okay at that weight we shouldn't be giving it to them. The CEO is demolishing fat cunt feminists on twitter it's hilarious. One tweet saying something like "Wow you're gonna be out of a job soon whoever is tweeting for the company!" meanwhile it's the CEO sitting there himself having a chuckle.
comparing it to smoking, i wouldn't go off on someone who is a packaday smoker that they're killing their lungs, but if they tried defending their habit to me i'm not going to coddle them and tell them it is fine.
Hell adverts with guys who are super ripped on them are fit privileged. It takes a lot more effort for a guy to get shredded like that than a girl to lose weight and slim down, no one cares about that though. Privilege out the roof! Just a bunch of lazy in denial women and orbiting enabling men.
Wow, this is such a class A example of 90% of SH missing the point. The point is that people are pissed off that adverts are still creating ideal bodies when really not having a body like that model isn't something to be upset about. All the people I know that have shared this aren't chubby feminists that moan about "thin privilege". This isn't about accepting obesity. It's about sharing the fact that not having the body of a model is okay.
Either way I don't support the banning of the advert. Should Calvin Klein

not be allowed to advertise with muscular almost perfect males because it makes young men upset they don't have the same body? [editline]27th April 2015[/editline] Her body is obviously a combination of genetics, hard work, and photoshop.

However a body similar to it is not unattainable while eating smart and hitting the gym.
I think we are talking here about slightly opposite - fat people screaming that it's their right to be extremely fat and screaming against healthy body proposal as if they say, "And if you don't you go to hell". There are many slightly obese people who are nice and rational and everybody is okay with that. Chubby people are ok, have you seen Sumo? Smashing
the difference is sumo wrestlers are actually muscular and have to have good cardio and shit, they just also have to have a lot of fat for their sport. They're actually in better shape than you'd expect just on their weight.
