Where do you victoria guys live?? [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] Oak bay^
Sidney REP.
Apparently the smoke rolled across the water and completely engulfed my home town of Port Angeles, Washington. My Facebook feed was aflutter. I missed the whole thing, being up in Bellingham. :v:
I'm four hours away (upper right corner of that satellite image) and I can't see SHIT. Sky is clear and blue. I see no smoke. We just get amazing sunsets right now.
Woke up yesterday thinking some cheeky fucker put an orange film over my window. Still looks shitty outside but at least the sky isn't giving me Fallout vibes. Started smelling like ash outside later in the day. It was really surreal.
Here in Vermont, we had a weird super-orange sunset. Found out yesterday this is why
Looks cool.
That just looks so cool to be in (obviously not cool to breath in though)
Oh damn, I live a little south of Seattle and was wondering why yesterday had a weird hue in the sky. That picture looks like a good background for Mordor.
If that doesn't convince idiots that Global Warming is real... Then I don't know what will.
Canada imitates California. Fires and smoke always make places look cool, until everything smells of smoke and you can't breathe, don't forget about the ash though. Last time we had big wild fires here, it was snowing ash in some places. Get ready for the ash snow.
Looks cool.
It almost looks like CG art from a post apocalyptic movie or game or something.
If that doesn't convince idiots that Global Warming is real... Then I don't know what will.
I know people are giving him boxes but he does have a point, this is only such a problem because the summers are only getting hotter in BC, each year's summer highs are basically breaking the last's record. I'm sure BC isn't the only place on the west coast with rivers that used to run all year round drying up because the winters aren't getting cold enough for the snowpacks.
yeah, we're at a point where we're breaking heat records every year
I did not realize we had a air advisory yesterday and i had my window open with a fan running. :suicide: In other news, seeing the sun blocked by the smoke was cool but errie. Wish I brought my camera but if it's the same tomorrow I will snap a picture for you all so long as it does not fuck with camera sensors...
I expect to see another story about the blueberries on the mainland needing to be picked ASAP (and being offered practically for free if you pick them yourself) when the hot summer threatens to boil the crop and spoil it soon. Also, this year's blueberry season started in BC a full month and a half to two months early because of the warm Winter
I feel bad for you guys - what are the health problems that can result from breathing this kind of smoke for so long?
It's gotta be pretty damn bad up there. The air here in Minnesota has a constant haze and we've got the blood red sunsets.
I thought it was just haze up here in Minnesota until the smoke really started to roll in.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/vg760Jr.jpg[/t] The sun through the smoke. It's fucking crazy.
Sometime while I was asleep today the smoke rolled in up here finally.
It almost looks like CG art from a post apocalyptic movie or game or something.
IT is rather uncanny to what I've seen before. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0jk5qol.jpg[/t] yesterday from cowichan after it started to thin out a bit toward noon [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] Take a look at this: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Fires.asp?Mode=normal&AllFires=0&FC=0 dunno how to sort by date, some are dated as may and surely they haven't been burning through june til now
Looks cool.
That's some blade runner shit right there.
With the fires in Saskatchewan and NWT, Manitoba is all filled up with smoke these days too. Really sucks for people with Asthma.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/kWN0vxZ.jpg[/t] This is from Bellevue, Wa. Not nearly as much smoke, but we have a little up there. I don't know how much of this is smoke vs. clouds, but since a few days ago the sky has been less and less blue. As an astronomy nerd I'm glad to see some sun spots show up in this picture, which are just barely visible after looking at its full size. Looks like SDO took a picture around the same time as me, how lucky. [t]http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/assets/img/latest/latest_512_1600.jpg[/t]
Thanks Canada for making it look like the entire neighborhood is burning down for the last 3 days. Complete with the smell too (prompting 911 calls).
My mother sent me this photo from their balcony, it is so weird since normally you can see all the way to Vancouver Island yet visibility now was more like 300 meters. [t]http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/ss289/Mrfantast/11716021_869085533178030_519241243_n.jpg[/t] It's like 11 am there too, eerily beautiful but one of the fires is pretty darn close to them.
Today is day 4. I'm hoping some wind or rain comes to clear this up. Pretty spooky. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/16349584/canon%20photos/IMG_0026PNGCOPY.png[/t]
