Clarkson practically owns Top Gear. He created the show as it is now, and he has a [i]lot[/i] of pull when it comes to TG's affairs. He also makes the BBC a fortune, Top Gear is one of the highest rated TV shows to ever air in any country, and it regularly pulls in as many viewers as America has citizens.

It's no surprise the BBC puts up with the backlash from idiots misinterpreting his shenanigans.
