Got me wondering if it's literally some tiny limitation (i.e. doesn't support the new HDMI or w/e) that they're forking $100 extra for a $5 upgrade. Can't wait 'till it's taken apart and people figure out what you get for those $100.
Did you not watch the stream? Here's what you get for the $100 more: a) Faster GPU - more than twice the speed, bringing it up to around a GTX 970 (if going by Tflops) b) Faster CPU - exact specs not known (possibly 16nm instead of 28nm) c) Faster RAM - exact specs not known d) Bigger HDD - 1TB according to some sources? e) Completely revamped case with a stronger PSU and less shiny god damn plastic :v: f) HDMI 2.0 for 4K60p and HDR. If you have a 1080p screen you can get better graphics via SSAA or other. (and probably more stable framerate in some titles) Idk man, I was honestly expecting it to be way more than $399. This is very good for the price.
Problem with the "f" item you listed is that you're not guaranteed better graphics on a 1080p screen. There's very little reason to even buy the PS4 Pro if you don't own a 4K TV from my understanding, especially with the lack of a UHD player. Also do you have a source about the CPU being stronger? I can't find anything that backs that up. Lot of places just say it has a Jaguar CPU.

They also talked about the upgraded CPU clockspeed.

I wonder how long before the PS4's original launch they decided they'd make another console to charge people with.
I wonder how long before the PS4's original launch they decided they'd make another console to charge people with.
I'm gonna take a guess that it was decided after the PS4 launch.
I'm gonna take a guess that it was decided after the PS4 launch.
The demand for 4k wasn't really even a thing in the consumer market around then after all.
4K for $400 my ass.
Geometry wars maybe I can understand 4k support for Netflix or something. But not for gaming on such terrible hardware. If you're going to support 4k, support it, don't half ass it. The small number of people with a expensive ass 4k TV aren't going to be very happy with PS4 Pro I would be happier if they used the hardware upgrade to up framerates, but they'll just use it to put in more eye candy and stick to that bare ass minimum of 30fps

(better than my GTX 680) It'll run triple A games in 4K. Some at 60fps, some at 30fps. Business as usual.

also for 100$ less for a xb1-s, you can already upscale ps4 games
Doens't doing that method have a littel bit of input lag, though?
Probably less than the panel on that TV has. Games on consoles can get away with minor input lag in most games because the display they are hooked up to usually has significantly more latency than anything you'd hook a PC up to. The panel might well refresh at 60Hz or whatever, but the pixel response time could very well be higher than the 1ms most decent desktop monitors run at.

Sure the better graphics are a plus, but I'm not sure a lot of devs will make their games 60FPS

What's the point? Does it do anything special? I've never seen a good upscaling algorithm.
What, so you just run a 1080p game on a 4K tv? What's the point?
It's cheaper than buying a PS4 Pro which is confirmed only two games for running in 4k, One being a Remastered PS3 Game and the other is tomb raider. the rest are currently upscaled.
Well that's obviously subject to change.
I have 18 TFLOPS in my PC (SLI 1080s) and Mankind Divided still runs like ass in 4k, how's this thing going to do it?
While you've got a point here, that game wasn't optimized for your platform either. And I don't mean PC. Or x86. I mean _your_ specific platform.

[editline]13th September 2016[/editline] Also the best part about that video is that the Playstation is still doing the brunt of the work and the S is just upscaling. If there isn't input lag that's why. Its being used as a glorified capture card.
It's cheaper than buying a PS4 Pro which is confirmed only two games for running in 4k, One being a Remastered PS3 Game and the other is tomb raider. the rest are currently upscaled.
wikipedia says Detroit will have 4k, but it's wikipedia so can't be sure.
But would it play decent VR?
So because I don't have a newer PS4 model due to getting mine at the beginning of 2015, i'm screwed out of HDR due to incompatible HDMI hardware, and games are being delayed for Pro functionality?
But you're putting input lag ontop of input lag?
Shit good point. Had a minor brainfart when writing that clearly. Through I expect with most TVs the extra ms or so of upscaler lag wouldn't be all that noticeable. TVs are fucking slow bastards at times due to all kinds of software and hardware passes they have internally.
