You're not forced to visit the US, you can't really say that you're being forced to give up your info.
What a fucking terrible argument. F- see me after class. "You're not forced to visit the US!" except for those who are headed over for business reasons. Those who had already planned their holiday to the US way before this fucking joke of a human being became POTUS, those who are moving to the US, those who are actually taking part in the refugee programs offered before you guys elected this imbecile. This is nothing more than a move to better filter out people who the administration doesn't agree with. Like fuck are they going to create a concrete list of reasons to deny you based on who you have in your contacts or what you post on Facebook (so much for that freedom of speech thing). It'll be arbitrary detention and deportation because you dared to say something positive about brown people.
Right to privacy is a recognized human right. If you're not willing to submit to this invasive background check as a normal traveler it also kind of infringes on freedom of movement
Are you citing documents from the UN? This doesnt infringe freedom of movement from my view, you can still go places besides the US.
Are you citing documents from the UN? This doesnt infringe freedom of movement from my view, you can still go places besides the US.
I can still go places besides North Korea but that doesn't make their invasive monitoring of foreign visitors any less sketchy You can avoid the US altogether, that's true, but that doesn't make this any less sketchy if it's pushed through
Are you citing documents from the UN? I probably couldn't take a flight to Mexico without first stopping over in America.
There's also a good few posts I think you should address instead of mine which was admittedly offhanded and poorly thought out, they have much better points to address [editline]Hyenas[/editline] Goddamn it why do I even try to automerge

When did we choose to become that type of country (other than the obvious answer when we elected this tangerine) I see nothing great in a country that impedes on basic rights, and people must choose between giving those up or not coming here at all
Are you citing documents from the UN? "Article 12: Right to privacy No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks."
As somebody who frequently visits the US, this worries me.
You're not forced to visit the US, you can't really say that you're being forced to give up your info.
I guess I should just never visit my girlfriend then?
You're not forced to visit the US, you can't really say that you're being forced to give up your info.
Sometimes you have to fly through to get somewhere else. You might have family that lifes there you want to visit. You might have to go on a job trip. Don't fucking try and justify any of this.

His argument is literally "uh well don't come here if you don't like it! go somewhere else if you don't like our rules" glad to know we have citizens who hold our country to a standard not much higher than some of the countries they're scared of

are we still focused on jobs and the economy?? "Bring....me....every-IMMMMMMIGRANT!" guess not...
Even if you gloss over the questionable ethics and potential human rights violation part of it this is still blatant xenophobia that stands to have no benefit except to those who might abuse the system to deny those who are deemed undesirable entry from the country Maybe that's paranoia but considering that the DHS is still enforcing the travel ban even after the court order told them to knock it off, I think it's a little bit justified
you know, i've never been a fan of the democrats, but i've always voted for them because they're the biggest opponent the republicans have. i've always been afraid of the republicans -- afraid that they would become authoritarian. this administration has proven all of those fears correct.
CBP can already search through your cellphones and laptops at will when you cross the border, but creating some kind of database that catalogues all foreigners online accounts and contacts is really dumb. I hope this ends with xenophobic executive orders and not trump creating more policies like this that effect US citizens.
I'm fucking lost. I just don't understand how all this CRAZY FUCKING SHIT that the new administration is doing IS OKAY WITH ANYONE What the FUCK IS GOING ON?!
I'm fucking lost. But the GOP isn't exactly the epitome of morality. Just gotta keep harassing your representatives and hope for the best.

The only time people have ever had power in stopping this was the election.
There's quite literally nothing the people can do except bother congress. The only time people have ever had power in stopping this was the election.
incredibly defeatist attitude
Article says they're only considering doing this, not actually doing it [yet] Article also says this is in regard to the San Berindino shootings, which I have no idea how this measure would have prevented that
Seems an Iranian BBC reporter was had his phone taken away, and they were reading his tweets. He's through border now, but they searched his phone and laptop.
I wonder what happens if someone checks in with an encrypted phone with a password lock because of company policy, are they going to be treated as a terrorist now?
I wonder what happens if someone checks in with an encrypted phone with a password lock because of company policy, are they going to be treated as a terrorist now?
With the way things are going, probably detained indefinitely until they cough up the password, with varying levels of threat made towards them in hopes of getting them to open their mouths. Maybe even torture, considering the administration's current stances. I can see it now. "What, do you think that you have rights here? We can do whatever we wants..."
