Not much then.
I think the problem with this is the motivation behind it - It's not being made to do scientific things better / faster, but rather for pride.
Conflict always creates the best advancements. Without any "real" motivation progress is much slower.
So ignorant that you're not even worth the time to explain.
I don't want your explanation to be completely honest with you. Like I said, I feel it is partly being done to show off and I disagree with that sentiment. I do agree with research and how it can also benefit others. My original post was worded pretty badly and like I said I'm having an off day. MrEndangered was nice enough to remind me that these computers can be loaned out for research.
I'm so sorry I've had an off day due to being ill the past 5 days and recently starting a new job which involves 12 hour days starting at 5:30am. I guess human error isn't allowed on Facepunch.
Ready by 2012? Just in time for the end of the world! I don't need my tinfoil hat anymore!!!
I think the real question here is: will it be able to run Crysis?
The new thing is Metro 2033 dude, Crysis ain't shit.

I like how you expect us all to know that you're having a bad day due to being ill the past 5 days and recently starting a new job which involves 12 hour days starting at 5:30am.

I'm not, but I did actually say in an above post previous that I was ill and that I did not think of what Endangered pointed out. It seems as if everyone is skipping that 1 reply is all. I'm just going to stop bothering as it's just going to go in circles now.
2012, the birth of skynet
chinese edition

Yeah, like the Space Race (hint, why is it called a race.)

If you can't stand the heat, as they say.
How much would this be? :raise:
How much would this be? :raise:
If you have to ask you can't afford it.
i'm hoping china tries to colonize a planet first
second space race would be awesome
We've gone from the space race to the spec race

If this happened NASA would probably get another blank check :V
or another world war
When theres a world war theres no real technology advancements, everything is about the military.
I bet this will be a flop.
I think the real question here is: will it be able to run Crysis?
Well technically a petaflop is memory storage so teh petaflops wouldnt matter
Well technically a petaflop is memory storage so teh petaflops wouldnt matter
no. no it's not.
it's floating point operations per-second. this computer will be able to compute 20 quadrillion floating point operations in one second.
that's 20,000,000,000,000,000 operations per second.

ok then
Imagine in 20-30 years time, when the average computer that a person buys is 20 petaflops...
Guaranteed that programs will bloat to match.
luck_or_loss is a faggot amirite?
Good. Finally some fucking technological progress. Am I the only one almost wanting a Second Cold War so the U.S. government will focus more on technology again?
If it works like the 1st cold war, maybe. But getting murdered with a nuclear weapons isn't fun

Come on shut up.
Guaranteed that programs will bloat to match.
Except the programs will be oh so more advanced and better.
We choose to run Crysis in this decade, not because it is easy, but because it is hard.
I'll take the old one if they don't want it.

Well, let's see.

So, games in 2040? Shiiiit.
China "Haha! Look at our powerful computer! China is world technological leader!"
USA "Oh that's cool, let me just whip up a little something. There we go."
When and where is the government auction for the old super computer?
