you sure about that? congress approval is at 9%, and the OWS and Tea Party movements are both pretty strong. I would call that angry.
I remember when everybody here treated Notch as a god and supported every single decision he made without a doubt.
That's when he was working on minecraft and releasing weekly updates that added content. Then everything went down hill fast...
why does everybody hate notch all of a sudden
not even a month ago all of you were sucking his e-dick
I think a lot of people are unjustifiably angry with Notch and Mojang. Although I'm not interested in the new games the company is working on, I'm personally satisfied with the work and detail that's gone into Minecraft and I'm not sure how much further development of the game will/can go. I spent only about 1/4 the cost of a new game to get Minecraft back during the early beta days and I've received well more than my money's worth.
I'm not saying people should be praising Notch and his company or anything, but when people are posting "Fuck off, Notch" and "as long as Notch is a part of that company it won't go anywhere," I think it reflects badly on the community.
with Persson passing the Minecraft torch to Jens Bergensten last month and duly taking a well-deserved break.
Are you kidding me
He's done practically nothing in the past few months
why does everybody hate notch all of a sudden

Because he's stopped adding new stuff to the game that isn't stolen from the modding community, gives no credit to the original makers, then claims that he did it himself.

maybe it was a bit of an exaggeration for arguments sake.. ops
So he's simply going to abandon Scrolls?
Notch isn't making scrolls, it is being made by another part of Mojang.
Notch is not a big game developer, it is not him. He never expected Minecraft to take off. Do not know why everyone expects so much from him.
Think about Terraria, They started last year and it has what.. 1 or 2 guys working on the game. It has almost 100 monsters and more than 600 items. They are still working really hard and every patch brings new items, monsters and other awesome stuff. I like Minecraft but it gets boring pretty fast.

Not defending Notch in any way, but 2d games are easier to make, and that huge patch got boring pretty fast, especially since it was really linear.
I think there should be a new definition, similar to developement hell, in which you build tons of hype and a large playerbase for a half finished game, then leave it half finished.
Sorry, but when did everyone start hating Notch? I'd just like to know why.
Sorry, but when did everyone start hating Notch? I'd just like to know why.
Well counting the vacations and unfulfilled promises, it's been going on for a while, I think.
So he's simply going to abandon Scrolls?
Notch wasn't developing scrolls and he's developing only one of the three games.

Read the posts in this thread and find out.
bad dev
Oh good, they can't finish one game so instead they'll pump out three quarter finished games. Seems like a bright strategy.
Didn't he mention a space trading game a while ago?
Yeah, I asked him in IRC in summer 2010 if the new game was going to be space trading shenanigans and he said yep. I'll try to find the screencap I have of it.
I think the reason people dislikes Notch now, is because of the decline in good minecraft updates. Just look at Datarealms. They releases a blog posts like, what, every 3-6 months, and everyone rejoices when they release one, because noone expects one to come out. Minecraft was updated a lot during indev and infdev, but after the decline started, people still expected them to update as frequently as before.

Hate them too. Such a good game ruined by lack of progress.

I'm cool with this. Everyone seems to be ignoring the bit where it says these games will show that Mojang doesn't need Notch to make good games. If they make good games, they'll be good games without Notch. And that's good.

Before proving they can make games without notch they should prove they can fix notch's shit with Minecraft, which is still glitchy as fuck, unfinished and lacks a lot of promised features.

Yes it does.
Yes it does.
No it doesn't. Tell me how developing MC requires more work than developing terraria?
It's not like you need visual artists or anything for mc.

Lighting, physics, procedural generation, and so on are much harder in a 3d game, because there's so many more parts that can break. Low res graphics don't really have anything to do with it.

Procedural generation is the only thing I can agree on in case of MC.
Theyll be out of money in a few months.

Just in time for another alpha to be put on sale.
I remember when everybody here treated Notch as a god and supported every single decision he made without a doubt.
I was wondering this too
I don't own MC so I never really payed attention to Notch, but all I heard were great things about him (with some jokes about his vacations) but then suddenly I noticed everyone saying how terrible he is and I'm wondering what the hell happened all of a sudden
I can understand disliking a bad dev but fuck, he didn't kill your kittens
Everybody's just mad because they bought a clearly marked beta/alpha then expected the end product to be drastically different for some reason.
