Haha, I didn't know George Galloway was here, I wonder if he'll speak.
He is now!
Well at least we know Iran's opinion on this situation from George.
I don't think he gets that this is about enforcing International Law, not supporting the Rebel cause.
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
It also wouldn't be a Galloway speech without some Israel bashing hahaha.
Here we go, George Galloway...
Who is he and why is he important?

He's an MP of an small independent party called Respect that SOMEHOW won in the last election but he also has a tv show on PressTV where he spews out Iranian propaganda to anyone who will listen and somehow everything he talks about always ends up relating to the Palestinians. He is a joke.
He was also on Big Brother once
Despite the fact that he's a bit of a joke I fucking love that crazy fucker.
Something needs to be done obviously but the UN report needs to come first before any action.
I don't think it's even possible to distinguish who used the chemical weapons. And this is getting out of hand now.
Syria is a shit hole not worth all this trouble. Russia, Iran and China are all banding together, Iran is threatening Israel if Syria is hit because as we all know, if you can't fight who you don't like, take someone they like hostage instead.
It's just a stage for a huge shit storm over what is nothing more than a shit hole. Yeah, I see that there are human rights violations taking place (but it's an ongoing war, of TWO YEARS now), but are we going to do this every time? Human Rights are violated all day every day all over the world and getting involved isn't worth the global backlash. International Law is just a concept that most countries don't even follow 100% anyway. I could understand intervention if it was a country like Russia, or England, or South Korea, suddenly falling apart. But this is the middle east. Ever since free thinking was banished from Baghdad at around 1100 AD it's been nothing but bullshit
Should just stand aside and let it burn, like everyone's been doing for 2 years already
Don't get me wrong, I'd be all for intervention if it was proven to actually be Assad using chemical weapons, and the entire world was like Oh Fuck This Guy, let's do what's morally right and out him. But this isn't the case. If everyone that's running their mouths make good on each of their threats if Syria is attacked, it will be WW3
What a bad talker he is.

Who gives him the knowledge of hw many lives will be saved and how many lives will be lost?

It doesn't even matter who used them.
If Assad Regime: Good, beat them.
If Rebels: Get the big Ally they couldn't win without and get control over the mess that is the rebells.
Of course it's not a good situation but the only way out of the CURRENT conflict is to end Assad. Point.
Whether that starts a secondary conflict within the Rebells is a different story.

I'm just saying it's none of our business. Iran is now saying they'll turn Israel into a lake of fire (Again) if we hit Syria, the Russian and US/UK Navies could possibly even trade blows with one another.. It's just not worth it. It's Syria's war, not ours. If people wanted to get involved they should have done it two years ago
I thought chemical weapons were internationally banned? Whats the point of having international laws if we don't enforce them? I'm not saying I'm happy about any of this but surely by using chemical weapons against civilians we are forced into intervening.
Remember, nobody thought World War 1 would start in as pointless a place as Serbia, far away from the center of Europe.

Didn't he also get suspended from parliament over something he said in the build up the Iraq war?
Nick is making the final remarks, vote will be soon.

He got suspended for abusing some Iraqi aid program for a few weeks.
Has Nick Clegg been sitting there all day or just during the bits I keep seeing?
Also voting now.
This is getting bad.

Think he sat there the whole time unlike everybody else.

"One day the great European War will come out of some damned foolish thing in the Balkans" - Otto Von Bismarck
The amendment failed.
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
By like ~300 to ~200
Wonder how popular the government motion will be.
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
How come the Speaker keeps shouting to lock the doors? Will the MP's escape?

Its what happens during divisions (the actual voting), after a set period of time the doors to the division lobby are locked to prevent any late comers from voting.
It can be read about here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Division_of_the_assembly#United_Kingdom

Every great power knew that Balkan was trouble, assassination happened in a suitable time for Germany (when they prepared all of their military power) so they pushed A-H to start the war.

Also if anyone from one of the other threads was wondering about 911BUFF, it just confirmed itself as utter bollocks. It reported that UK MPs had voted overwhelmingly against intervention when
A) It was the amendment and B) that isn't even what they are voting on.
Wow, it failed
That was pretty close.
I think there is about to be an argument.
[editline]29th August 2013[/editline]
I bet they will be recalled over the weekend.
I'm watching the Commons live and having buffering issues, all i've got so far is the speaker shouting "ORDEEEER, ORDEEEER" and something about someone getting shot in Colombia
so.. thats it? We wont be backing up the US and whoever else? Is there a chance of a re-vote or anything?
Not that I want one.. just a bit shocked really
so.. thats it? We wont be backing up the US and whoever else? Is there a chance of a re-vote or anything?

There's nothing to prevent a second vote, but Cameron said it was clear Parliament didn't want intervention and he would 'act accordingly'

Well no because what the commons says is irrelevant. The government has the final say over military action.
Personally though I can see there being a second vote if / after concrete evidence appears.
It's okay, England. You guys have followed us into enough bullshit, you can sit this one out
I just wish we'd sit it out, too
I still think Assad didn't use the weapons, but rebels or Faction #32 did. Why would Assad use them, in a war he's winning, and invite the potential combined forces of the world to put his ass down in a single weekend. If we get involved, who are we going to fight? The rebels that we've been giving weapons to this whole time?
