It isn't being taken away from prisoners, it just isn't being given to them, which is the right thing to do since no one else gets it.

Prisons should be about punishment just as much about reintegration into society. How can anyone expect a prisoner who has little to no education, anti-social behavior and/or other issues to contribute to society upon release? Prison can even turn people into harder criminals by de-sensitisation and communication with harder criminals. Some people need more than a punishment, some people need to be pointed in the right direction and then pushed into it because they don't know which way it is, or how to get there by themselves.

I get your lust for revenge, it's natural, but it's time to think logically now. Prison is to serve these functions: - Rehabilitation, if possible - Protecting the rest of society, if rehabilitation is not possible

I can understand treating prisoners poorly, if all you want is revenge I can understand giving prisoners work, as rehabilitation and to maintain upkeep of the prison I can't understand making prisoners work and not giving them compensation, that is slavery and it corrupts the justice system when more people in prisons equals more money being made
