Anyone know if any Canadian ISP's will be following what AT&T are doing?
Anyone know if any Canadian ISP's will be following what AT&T are doing?
No; not yet anyway. As far as I'm aware, we only have laws against uploading and sharing copyrighted material (don't quote me on that)
And so AT&T went bankrupt
I couldn't stand AT&T and their data caps.
This can't go wrong.. oh wait. http://www.zdnet.com/french-copyright-crackdown-claims-first-victim-7000004265/
Serves him right for letting his wife pirate Rihanna songs.
Don't use torrents, simple. Or at the very least use private trackers + forced encryption.
Well shit. I use AT&T. And the only other option where I live is Time Warner, which was the absolute worst ISP I have ever had. :suicide:
Holy shit I can't believe people are complaining that they can't pirate stuff anymore. Entitled much?
Holy shit I can't believe people are complaining that they can't pirate stuff anymore. Entitled much?
Copyright and piracy laws in their current state are simply terrible. The problem is not that we won't be able to pirate, the problem is that once you start blocking you can't stop. Combined with corruption it can be used for malicious intent hiding behind "piracy" shield. It's not piracy itself, it's the idea that ISP can just go out and block anything they feel does not suit their ideals is what's terrifying. For example TPB is mainly a piracy site but I personally use it mainly for legal torrents since there's so much content it's easy to find and download. (I use different sites for "linux distros" and funny enough these sites most likely won't ever get under radar). It's like the megaupload case. Sure it had pirated crap but it was also a great file hosting. The law took it away in the name of "copyright justice" but it did nothing good for end user, only bad. You know the law is bad when you practice it, it only hurts the mortals. It's obvious the ISP is getting paid for doing this, otherwise it's not in their interest to restrict content from their customers.
Those entitled pirates deserve it!
Oh yes, back in last decade when technology was much shittier. Also way to go cherry picking the worst cases. I completely fail to see how being blocked after six incidents is equal to getting sued for millions

Good luck with that AT&T. Good luck. </sarcasm>
I couldn't stand AT&T and their data caps.
They don't actually implement them all over the place. Certainly don't enforce them. 500GB minimum every month. Never gotten a single complaint.
AT&T has a monopoly where i live, and this makes things worse, from now on, just from the fact that they're actually monitoring internet connections now, i'm gonna be using TOR to do anything on the internet. I don't pirate anything, but i've been to some websites that i don't want anyone to know about.

On my 50MBit(6MB/s) connection on TOR I get around 100KB/s maximum on a good day.
My private trackers for "linux distros" should probably stay under the radar. though I hope my friend rents a seedbox to share with me soon.

Anyways, i saw this coming ever since they started with SOPA.
I don't get anti piracy measures, just because you are cracking down on piracy doesn't mean people are going to buy more of your music, games, movies. If anything doesn't that just cause people to hate them even more and refuse to buy their products in the long term?
TOR has arguably been compromised. Too many corrupt exit nodes. It's also slow as hell.
Most of them can be filtered out. http://xqz3u5drneuzhaeo.onion/users/badtornodes/
it's ok guys just stop stealing shit by the fourth time and you be ok aight?
or or we just hit and run every time

What really scares me is that AT&T now has a completed system for blocking specific customers from visiting websites of their choosing. This is just the beginning of what that system will eventually be used for.
They don't actually implement them all over the place. Certainly don't enforce them. 500GB minimum every month. Never gotten a single complaint.
Mine was only 150GB a month :v:

Well it looks like I'm lucky for having an unknown ISP
//
I'm confused here. If I have At&T as a cell phone provider will I be ok or will they still somehow magically block me?
What's sad is that a lot of telecommunications companies can have huge monopolies over certain areas, especially rural areas. For example, here you can only get Verizon or satellite internet; I have no other choices, which sucks.
You think that's bad? My options are time warner, time warner, and time warner.
it is now illegal to torrent software you purchased but lost the CD for amazing
Yeah, I bought Halo 1 for my PC a few months ago because I thought I might give it a try. Then when I actually go to play it, *poof*! Disc is missing. (I had already played it before, I just don't know where I put that darn CD) Afraid that if I torrent it some kind of copyright bullshit will come up even though I already bought the darn thing.
