Weren't women treated much more equal in Viking society than others at the time?

It's a very relative equality but yes, they had a few more rights than most

yep, even slaves were.
The entire plot of 'fuck shit up' must be reworked
is that still in development?

Yes. Women actually had almost as many rights as many, like owning property and making estate decisions. When men were off for a year or more at a time on raids, they counted on their wives to take care of the farm and manage the estate- even defend it from other men. Consequently they were treated a lot better than in comparable medieval cultures.
lol
Well I read a few sagas, ones where farmers houses were set on fire, their family's killed and their wealth stolen while others about vikings who attack gangs and thieves but let farmers and traders go in peace.
So they have their heroes and villains all the same. But something about raids don't sound UN-savage to me when it usually involves killing a lot of defenseless people and taking their wealth, its not a surprise that when the victims of such raids were going to write down about the vikings it was going to be in a bad light.

Egils saga? That shit is great. Egil gets tied up by a farmer, steals some shit and sneaks out. Then he feels bad because he realizes he's acting like a common thief. So he comes back and raids the place, burns down the house, and kills everyone, and his honor is restored because raids were considered honorable.
Viking honor was pretty hilarious.

No one is saying Vikings were totally fine, peaceful people who just wanted to get along with everyone, but people masturbate over "chivalry" all the time and don't seem to realize that these same people were sailing off to the holy land to commit horrible atrocities "in the name of god" (but really to make a lot of money)
The Norwegians were impressive in that they managed to establish a colony in Greenland and it survived for 400 years until a combination of Eskimo raids and declining temperatures caused the inhabitants to (most likely) die out during a famine.
The Sagas are awesome. My favorite is the bit from Njal's Saga where Thorhallr, a lawyer, can't be at a trial because his leg is infected, so he sends a representative. Every time the court asks a question, the representative has to make the ride back and forth. The opposing lawyer keeps making trivial requests to stall for time and drag out the proceedings. Eventually Thorhallr gets so pissed he sticks a spear in his infected leg to lance it, gets on his horse, rides all the way to the town, goes into the courtroom, and kills the other lawyer with one swing. That's when the fight starts and the courtoom turns into a warzone as the two families fight it out.
