I've honestly never seen a game rated C or A.
I think I saw an A rated PC game at walmart or somewhere where you play as Alice from Alice in wonderland. The back cover was pretty gorey
Sadly here in Chile we won't be getting them, our senators thought that we need a new rating sistem that will make the game covers look like this:
Manhunt 2 was AO as well, no?
I've honestly never seen a game rated C or A.
Games rated A are harder to market and sale when compared to other games, so that is a reason for the A games, no clue for C.

it's always bothered me how they have a 17+ and an 18+ like, you need to be 17 to play gory games, and 18 to play sexual games i guess? what?
it's always bothered me how they have a 17+ and an 18+ like, you need to be 17 to play gory games, and 18 to play sexual games i guess? what?
AO should be scrapped IMO and just rated M but with a stronger disclaimer
Looks better but nobody's gonna notice, nobody ever looks or cares.
The change seems a bit useless, mostly because all it really did was shift the letter slightly and changed some parts from white to black (and vice-versa) though having an Early Childhood rating seems a tad redundant because what "dangerous" things in those games doesn't even require such a large rating, the lettering is close to being ineligible. Like what other people said/shown in the thread, think the British rating symbols are simple to understand, never really got the distinction between E and E10 (besides possibly small difference between fantasy and semi-realistic violence) with the fact of the odd year jumps between ratings; either abolish EC and fuse it with E or turn it into E-6, the difference between Mature and Adults-Only is baffling considering it's only 1 year... Like PEGI has symbols showing content, rather than tiny text saying stuff like "comic mischief", more direct to the point such as Drug Use, Horror/Fear, Sex....and a case of European Weirdness; Gambling. (because somehow gambling in a game makes them a 12, shame Platinum/HGSS was made worse in that respect due to their removals, Voltorb Flip sucks, but save scumming could've gotten you a Dratini)
I've always like the icon idea because if you can't read or understand the complex language you'll be able to recognize symbols
That has to be a joke.

No way
Sadly, this is true, our senators aproved the law on the last tuesday, here you can read the report at the official website. I translated the contents of the law, not the whole article because my english is piss poor:
-Importers and manufacturers will have to put in the cases of the games captions that show clearly the ammount of violence -Also, only people who can certificate that they are over 18 can buy games rated for that age, and the sellers have to require the respective identification -Every case or cover that contains a videogame should have an accurate warning about the violence values and educative values. -They will be classified suitable for "3 years or older", "7 years or older", "12 years or older", "16 years or older" and "18 years or older" -The warnings should fill, at least, the 25% of the space of both sides of the case or cover of the respective videogame.
At least we will not have cod kiddies anymore.
so wait up you got to be over 18 to buy a game marked for say 7 or 12 year olds? Or am I reading it wrong
I prefer the white on black for the MATURE ESRB portion. It just looks a bit better.
so wait up you got to be over 18 to buy a game marked for say 7 or 12 year olds? Or am I reading it wrong
I translated it wrong :v:, you have to be 18 to buy 18+ games.
Manhunt 2 was AO as well, no?
Yes, it was.
Sadly here in Chile we won't be getting them, our senators thought that we need a new rating sistem that will make the game covers look like this:
Almost as bad as a law somebody tried to pass here, unless games were in a curtained off "Adults Only" section, they had to look like this You can imagine how quickly that got shot down :v:
Wow the ESRB is still relevant I don't quite understand the point of game ratings anymore really. Absolutely nobody heeds the warnings. It's like putting "poison warning" labels on the cans for a paint drinking contest
Formalities, and covering asses. If a parent complains how they're so offended that their child had to witness such tragic horrors and is now scarred for life, the game company can say "We put the warning there, you bought it, you ignored the warning. Your problem, not ours." [editline]3rd August 2013[/editline] Though for some reason we still have this "violent video game" crusade :v:

Rated PEGI 16 for Spiders.
-Also, only people who can certificate that they are over 18 can buy games rated for that age, and the sellers have to require the respective identification
Why do they think that's gonna work? The parents normally buy videogames for the 12 y/o cod kiddie.
I translated it wrong :v:, you have to be 18 to buy 18+ games.
Oh, fair enough, same shit here in Australia, just don't know why they want 25% of the fucking packaging with a classification thats nonsense [editline]4th August 2013[/editline]
Almost as bad as a law somebody tried to pass here, unless games were in a curtained off "Adults Only" section, they had to look like this You can imagine how quickly that got shot down :v:
Imagine if they did that to movies and TV show promotions, I think everyone would be pissed Idk why they wanted to treat games like fucking cigarettes
When I was in Ireland two years ago, in GameStop I wanted to buy BRINK, but it had rating of 15+ I think, so when I brought the disk to the counter, he did not allow me to buy the game. First and only time when that age rating has affected the purchase of the game for me.
Australia has better and cleaner classification logos
You might as well remove the R18+ since our government seems to not want to use it.
When I was in Ireland two years ago, in GameStop I wanted to buy BRINK, but it had rating of 15+ I think, so when I brought the disk to the counter, he did not allow me to buy the game. Its company policy and a dumb one at that since most parents dont care about ratings at all
You know what I think they need to do with this rating? They need to make the ESRB ratings more eyegrabbing. Make it bigger or in more notable colors. Not just a small black and white square in the corner. Because honestly, the people who the ESRB ratings are mainly targeted towards as I see it are the people who don't know enough from researching or even just reading the backside description on the cover to know their content, and because of their ignorance might buy a product for themselves or someone else that they would end up feeling offended by. Basically, the people who need the ESRB rating are fucking blissfully ignorant morons, and as such I think the ESRB is simply too small and easily overlooked by someone who's shit at paying attention. It needs to be like a large fucking neon stop sign, something you can't goddamn miss, because the people it's aimed at are simply not people that expect to see anything they need to pay attention to and probably thinks that if little 9-year-old Billy wants Manslaughter: Drug Rape 7 then it's probably a game suitable for kids since he's usually such a well behaved boy.
You might as well remove the R18+ since our government seems to not want to use it.
Proposal to bring X18+ into the video game rating boards [sp]This rating is a fucking death sentence to anybody, its not as worse as being RC'd but anything rated this can only be sold in the Northern Territory or Australian Capital Territory, this is mostly reserved for porn anyway[/sp]

got this from media markt, also saw it in a store called saturn or something.
