but they couldn't vote till 1913; that's the fucking point of feminism, to put women socially and economically on the same level of men.
Yeah well guess what, you have equal rights now. What's the problem? Women hold places in office, they have run for president and become vice president. While it still exists on a social level, it is no where NEAR as big of a problem as you people are acting like it is.
What? That you can discriminate against more than one type of people? In that case, yeah I agree, that's what I'm saying.
oh shit I misread
You keep saying that, what does it even mean. He's saying a valid point.
No he's not. He's being a pedant.
this thread has become a terrible, terrible place
When several people have different opinions on the internet its never going to be pretty.
ummmm no. Misandry, like misogyny, is a real thing. Just because misandry is no where near as prevelant as misogyny it does not mean it doesn't exist.
misogyny, like racism, is talked about as an institution.
misandry is not an institution. that one time a woman said "i hate men" is utterly inconsequential and unimportant.
wait what I'm fairly sure murder is worse than rape
I mean both are terrible but that ought to go without saying [sub][sub]right[/sub][/sub]
not necessarily. it depends on how bad you view death as
if you go on terms of conscious suffering, rape is almost certainly worse than murder. not to mention rape is usually accompanied by the exact same kind of fear of violence and death as murder is. in fact, I might be pushed to say the only difference between the two is that a rape victim spends the rest of their life suffering from the trauma.
for the victim's family and friends, they have to deal with a) a dead person or b) a person traumatized for the rest of their life. pick whichever's worse. I don't think I could stand to say one is worse than the other.

institutionalised racism and misogyny no longer exist
you heard it here first folks
both are a result of misogyny
look, sanius, I've asked many many times and I've not got an answer
you yell at me whenever I talk about evpsych for it being unfalsifiable, and I think you're guilty of the same thing here
what do you mean by it being a result of misogyny, as opposed to it being something else? what would falsify this?
While it still exists on a social level, it is no where NEAR as big of a problem as you people are acting like it is.
Who are you to say that? What makes you, (A GIANT LEAP OF FAITH INCOMING) a male, so qualified to say "misogyny" just isn't a big deal? What special perspective do you have that allows you to make sweeping statements like that?
I'm white and I certainly don't feel like I would ever be qualified to say "blacks have it pretty easy" because I understand the limitations of my own, personal perspective.
No he's not. He's being a pedant.

Pedant; Noun.
A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism and precision, or who makes a show of his or her learning.
What.
Anyway, he's voicing his opinion, and you reply with the exact same worthless comment every single time. Please actually provide a counter-argument.
Oh come on, there's way more disgusting stuff going on in the internet.
let's not turn this into a petty argument about religion please thank you
What? I'm referring to his politics, not his beliefs. Christianism is a name for those politics.
not necessarily. it depends on how bad you view death as

well as a consequentialist-utilitarian it is kind of important to me
I mean if you had to choose between an entire civilization being raped once, and an entire civilization getting killed once (and forever), I fucking hope you'd choose the rape option
What.

hey dude, answer this question:
Who are you to say that? What makes you, (A GIANT LEAP OF FAITH INCOMING) a male, so qualified to say "misogynyjust isn't a big deal"? What special perspective do you have that allows you to make sweeping statements like that?

I mean I've taken classes. I've read textbooks and textbooks on minority and gender issues in america. I would consider myself a somewhat knowledgable person and I don't feel qualified to make any sweeping generalizations like the one you just made. What have you got that lets you say that? What special knowledge do you have that lets you say "misogyny isn't a big deal anymore."?
Yeah well guess what, you have equal rights now. What's the problem? Women hold places in office, they have run for president and become vice president. Well ok, Mr Smartass (great name for the shit you're posting), just because a problem has got smaller, doesn't mean it doesn't exist and need addressing.
If I punch someone 5 times a day for a month, then next month choose to do it only 4 times a day, it doesn't mean we can all relax and go "woah there, this is a good solid 20% better thn before, what are you all bitching about?"
The fact that inequality is still there on any level is uncceptable. This whole "it's not so bad" argument is just code for excuses and apathy.
We all have lives and personal goals. I'm talking about the big picture of society. Women want to look pretty to improve their 'value' and men engage in all manners of competition to obtain these valuable women.
These are the foundations of the human race.
no the foundations of human race, if you'd bothered to study history, has largely been economical.
humanity stopped being egalitarian right around the time it stopped being hunter-gatherer.
turns out men prefer possessions over women, and historically that's pretty much what the role of women has been.
reproduction, for a very long time has simply been a way to maintain possession of capital, land, or even just a farm.
women looking pretty is not the reason why our dear elizabeth II is german from the "House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha"
No he's not. He's being a pedant.
So because I don't believe that misandry doesn't exist I am pedantic?
completely debunked Freudian garbage
Freud wasn't debunked. It just became lacanian.
Oh come on, there's way more disgusting stuff going on in the internet.
Just because, say, the Pain Olympics exists, doesn't mean that things below a Pain-Olympics-level of disgusting are not worth discussing.
Not quite sure where this particular trainwreck is going anymore, though.

I never said it wasn't a big deal. It's still a big deal, just not nearly on the scale that some people pretend it is. Feminists claim that women don't have equal rights (they do), and that there are only men in in positions of power(which is blatantly false) trying to take their rights away from them. misogyny only exists on a social level now, and while it is still a problem (and a fairly large one at that), It is nowhere close to the level that most femenists claim it to be.

You're confusing proximate and ultimate causation.

misogyny has always been at a social level, at what other level would it be? when something is put into law it doesn't mean it'll always be followed.

Women didn't used to be able to vote, and marriage was essentially selling your daughter away into slavery. Women also used to not be able to hold positions of power, were seen as objects, etc.

So being called a slut and a whore for wanting to be able to use contraceptives and abortion isn't a big deal? Even when you're called those words by a big-name newscaster/pundit?

No they fucking don't bro. There's still pay discrimination, there's still de facto social discrimination. There's still discrimination against women in the form of repression of reproductive rights. Women are perpetually at the edge of having their right to choose revoked in this country.
and that there are only men in in positions of power(which is blatantly false)
Nobody says that
trying to take their rights away from them.
They are? Like I said, womens' reproductive rights are under constant assault in this country.

again, again, and again:
you are in no position to make sweeping statements about people because your opinions do not represent modern society or discrimination's place in modern society as a whole because you're not some magical omnipotent being

Yes I am, you saying the exact same sentence over and over again bolded doesn't make you any more right. I am saying something, but you happen to not agree with it.

hey fucking guy, misogyny cannot exist "only on a social level". If it exists on a social level it will necessarily manifest itself on an institutional level. Even if there isn't legal discrimination, there will still be de-facto discrimination.
mr smartass I think what sigmalambda is saying is that you're not saying anything of substance, it's just an applause light, filled with middling anemic statements like "it's much less of a problem than it used to be"
