I wasn't judging the people who donated to her, though I disagree with their choice. I'm saying she shouldn't have asked for the money in the first place.
There's nothing wrong with asking. Ever. It's a passive action with no consequences besides what other people choose to do in response. There's nothing to be learned from this line of inquiry.
I wasn't judging the people who donated to her, though I disagree with their choice. I'm saying she shouldn't have asked for the money in the first place.
In that case, who the hell are you to decide who should ask for money and who shouldn't? When you a hobo begging for money on the streets, do you also run up to the and shout "Get a job you greasy pig!" at them? She does whatever the fuck she wants, and she doesn't break any laws. It doesn't affect you in any way. Don't like it? Just ignore it and let stupid (according to you) people do whatever stupid things they want to do. [editline]9th July 2012[/editline] To me it sounds like jealousy. "Buhu. Someone is doing something there's clearly a demand for in community and is getting money for it."
because it doesn't matter whether or not she was entitled to the money she asked, and people gave. there's no deception here, unless you call every donation button on every artist website in the world a deception. maybe if she got the money from like a government grant or something you could be pissed, but this was all given willingly by other people Seriously, just drop that shit. It's a complete non sequitor argument that consists of you making arbitrary and uninformed judgements of worth. Even if you were right, you would gain nothing by proving so.
I never claimed she deceived people. I'm saying she shouldn't have asked because she is a well off white woman with an existing web show and an existing donation based website who could have easily made the videos without an extra cent on Kickstarter. And I'm not trying to "gain" anything. I was stating my view as stated above, and now you two have explained why you think it's dumb. Thank you for that. She's a upper-middle class white woman with a pop-culture website, which is drastically different than a homeless person. And usually I am ignoring it. I didn't create a flash game attacking her, or write a damned book on why she's wrong. I simply made a post stating my view in a thread related to it. So saying "if you don't like it just ignore it" when all I've done is stated my opinion is saying that I shouldn't have done that in the first place. And really? It sounds like jealousy? How far out of your ass did you have to pull that?
Why would it matter how wealthy she is? It doesn't have anything to do with the topic. There's clearly a demand for that documentary. Maybe she just doesn't want to work for free?
Why would it matter how wealthy she is? It doesn't have anything to do with the topic. There's clearly a demand for that documentary. Maybe she just doesn't want to work for free?
You made it relevant by comparing her asking for money to a homeless person's asking for money twice. It's an entirely different circumstance. And yes, there is a demand. But no one (except perhaps people who browsed her website or saw her previous videos) asked her to do this. She chose to. And she isn't saying "Wow I'm doing all this hard work why don't you guys pay me". She's saying "I want to make this video, pitch in if you want", she'd be incredibly arrogant to say the former.
There's nothing wrong with asking. Ever. It's a passive action with no consequences besides what other people choose to do in response. There's nothing to be learned from this line of inquiry.
It's not a line of inquiry. I just stated my view that she didn't need the money. I don't think she was a bad person to do so or that people who donated to her are outright stupid. I think the whole thing is misguided, that's my view, and you're free to disagree with it. At least you haven't insulted me and have argued this reasonably.
I think that at the end of the day, some women need to learn to deal with the world rather than to expect the world to deal with them. There are valid issues here, but making a documentary is going to do nothing to solve those issues, as they will be preaching to the choir. These documentaries will end up being expensive youtube-poop food deconstructed and parodied for lulz.
I don't have a problem with her agenda, just her execution and her personality. Which is to say I haven't even been aware of this whole internet shitfight besides the few threads on here and she's not something i spend much time at all dwelling on. She just comes across to me as someone who has a hammer and thinks everything is a nail sticking out. Probably more so now than ever because she's in the spotlight and probably feels some pressure to keep producing content no matter how baseless or inaccurate it might be. Every time you falsely use the 'dumb' rating instead of the 'disagree' rating, god kills a woman.
Holy crap, Bendilin made that? I used to play on Xbox Live with that guy.
one thing that i gleaned from this series of presentations that's irrelevant to the guy who made the dumb flash game is the contradictory nature of this girl's feminist videos on video games i don't care if she made a lot of money to fund her video series, i care about the core argument a true feminist is supportive of complete sexual freedom of women, but this girl seems to be against that. she says that scantily-clad girls are oversexualized and that's wrong because it's like throwing meat to a hungry consumer base, but in all reality, a true feminist message would value the strong, independent nature of these women and their equally strong sexual identities maybe i'm mistaken, but i think that a lot of video game characters are pretty positive by feminist standards
I take it you haven't looked at this yet.
-snip- I'm at the point where I can't articulate myself well or argue without looking like an ass
You are aware that that website is a joke, right. It's hardly usable as proof.
It makes a valid point.
You are aware that that website is a joke, right. It's hardly usable as proof.
do you know what satire is
lol dis shit again. The way I see it, she's a controversial public figure, and controversial public figures have games made about them. George Bush: http://www.sockandawe.com/
Most powerful man in the world and responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths = amateur documentary maker who made an arguably overzealous documentary against misogyny.
both are controversial public figures... your point? [editline]9th July 2012[/editline]
feminism didn't start the iraq war iirc
so what? the point is people have strong feelings about them.
Anita Sarkeesian is barely public.
"She claims to want gender equality in video games, but in reality, she just wants to use the fact that she was born with a vagina to get free money and sympathy from everyone who crosses her path." I am just about ready now to throw my morals to the wind and fight to institute eugenics in full force. It boggles the mind how stupid some people can be.
If this is what threw you into wanting eugenics, you've been incredibly tolerant of the stupidity of humanity as a whole up to this point, and I salute you for that.
From my perspective, sexuality is a dimension, just like any other emotion. Sexuality can be defining trait, a strength, or a weakness. Just as hate, love, depression, and all the other colors of the emotive rainbow can be. I do really hate the whole anti-sex vibes coming from general media. A woman can look and act like Kratos and still be sexist, and a woman can look like a sex robot from future Japan and still be a worthy character. Anything can be done well.
I think sexualization is okay, as long as the creator is self aware. Try to avoid objectification though.
I think sexualization is okay, as long as the creator is self aware. Try to avoid objectification though.
That's the problem, though. There's a fine line between the two and nobody agrees where it is exactly.
I bet you the creator of this has at least one "attempted rape" or other sexual violence against women in his criminal record.
I bet you the creator of this has at least one "attempted rape" or other sexual violence against women in his criminal record.
What the fuck would make you assume something like that?
She REALLY likes the word trope
I bet you the creator of this has at least one "attempted rape" or other sexual violence against women in his criminal record.
here we go with the uninformed and stupid bullshit again "someone doesn't like what this woman has to say, so I bet he tries to rape women in his spare time"
he might not want to rape women in his spare time, but apparently he makes flash games where you beat women up in his spare time. it's a probable conclusion that his opinion of women isn't really high
both are controversial public figures... your point?.
Yeah, and a cup of coffee and molten lava are both hot liquids.
Anita Sarkeesian is barely public.
on the internet she is, and the internet is the medium on which these games are made. [editline]10th July 2012[/editline]
Yeah, and a cup of coffee and molten lava are both hot liquids.
both will cause pain if you stick your finger in them.
he might not want to rape women in his spare time, but apparently he makes flash games where you beat women up in his spare time. it's a probable conclusion that his opinion of women isn't really high
I don't follow. If I made a game about beating up a dude my opinion of men wouldn't be very high? that is to say, I don't understand the constant need to reiterate gender in this context.
I don't follow. If I made a game about beating up a dude my opinion of men wouldn't be very high? that is to say, I don't understand the constant need to reiterate gender in this context.
It's not that he's making a flash game of beating up women. It's that he's making a flash game of beating up a woman for saying "Hey, I think women need more of a voice".
here we go with the uninformed and stupid bullshit again "someone doesn't like what this woman has to say, so I bet he tries to rape women in his spare time"
I don't know if he ever raped anyone (doubt it, he seemed underweight and didn't have trouble with girls liking him), but I do know he gets drunk a lot, and probably not a virgin. He also posted on a message board bitching about his mom worrying about him when he went out one night (a mother having empathy, so horrible). I remember one time this guy joined our game and he was pissed off about what Bendilin did to some girl.
