cynics have never done anything worthwhile.
There are people with a shoestring budget that have made videos multiple times better than videos which have had thousands put into them.
Kickstarter bandwagons are a load of rubbish, keep them for projects that need them;I blame the donators and the people that start them
I would donate to projects that actually need and deserve the money, like Wasteland 2.
lol
you could go about this without being abrasive
he doesn't have that ability
I don't like things like Tropes vs Women because all it does is complain about an issue that's old as shit itself, and then they say nothing to fix the problem.
it's not even out yet
he'll probably just school a lot of people and be trapped into a nigh-infinite loop of arguing with stubborn people
he's cursed, that one
Lankist is a fucking idiot. His constant motto is "If you disagree with any single feminist idea on the internet at all, you're automatically a misogynist."
And lets not forget how "Calling someone a dick is better than calling someone a cunt because the penis is the dominant organ of our society"
He must be in pretty good shape with all the shit he pulls out of his ass.
what is you guys' obsession with lankist? this is the second or third thread i've seen where several people say things like "oh boy, i bet lankist is gonna post here." if you guys hate him so much, why not just stop summoning him to the thread by saying his name repeatedly? if you're certain that he's never gonna change his views, and you're certain that your views are right, why not just add him to your ignore list? at least take bets on it or something, jesus.

"cynic" is a stand-in for "someone with whom i disagree"

Can't go less abrasive than that.

um how can you even begin to disagree with this unless you're a massive misogynist
you don't need to be an insane feminist nazi or whatever to get that "dick" and "cunt" have completely different connotations and really aren't comparable

generalizing statement without a clear point

Shitposters tend to get some form of backlash
it's not even out yet
Just look at the 'topics' the series is supposed to cover. Just look at her other videos. It's not going to do anything constructive. She's already given axamples of the type of characters she'll be criticising, and a lot of them are good or even great, she's just being incredibly nit-picky and ignoring positive traits to accentuate the negative.
"cynic" is a stand-in for "someone with whom i disagree"
hey uh i would assume you'd be respectful enough to actually think i meant what i meant
you can just be a arse instead though, that's fine i'm more than willing to start flinging shit at you
a cynic is someone who is cynical, as in thinks that nothing is worthwhile and anyone who tries to do something worthwhile is obviously just fishing for money or has some ulterior motive.
Plus, there are a lot of women who disagree with what Sarkeesian is saying. I see a lot of video reactions on youtube by women who disagree with her and don't feel threatened or objectified by video games.
That's a checkmate.
because it's hilarious to watch
it's actually really annoying to see an even slightly controversial thread break out in a lankist circlejerk before the dude even arrives. if you want to argue with him, fine, but what's the point in making a big deal out of it?
um how can you even begin to disagree with this unless you're a massive misogynist

or you could say, live in a different country from the USA, where those words have different connotations
nice fucking cultural imperialism there [sub][sub]see i can call people names too[/sub][/sub]

It'll be same-old same-old but with fancier lighting and a better microphone
a cynic is someone who is cynical, as in thinks that nothing is worthwhile and anyone who tries to do something worthwhile is obviously just fishing for money or has some ulterior motive.
what do you call someone who disagrees that nothing is worthwhile but does believe that everyone has ulterior motives
The main problem here isn't the flash itself, but rather what it represents, instead of coming up with actual intellectual counter-arguments to her cause, this guy is attacking her directly. I can almost guarantee that if a guy had started this Kickstarter, the backlash would have been much less severe, sure there'd be people accusing him of being a white knight, but not to this extent. Try imagining this out of context, and what you're seeing is a ton of people clamoring for this woman to be beat to death for her opinions. Now, I don't know about you, but that seems like a pretty fucked up attitude to have. While I don't think a documentary is the best way to go about it, at least she's trying to shed light on an issue that she feels is pervasive in the gaming medium, and the fact that this flash even exists is kind of proof of the latent hatred towards women commonly found in gaming communities. Remember that time when it was a big deal on the internet that women who played online were sent messages by people who were threatening to rape and kill them just because they participated in the same online match? I remember quite clearly that a huge portion of people defended it by saying that they were probably so-called "Gurl gamers" and had probably been a nuisance the entire round, I'm not saying that wasn't the case with all of them, but almost 50 % of people you encounter in games online are female, and most of the time you don't even realise because they don't feel that it's necessary to make that a point. However, even if they just use in-game voice chat to communicate with their teammates, they were often ridiculed and told to get the fuck off the game and go back to making sandwiches or whatever, and that's just sad, the fact that almost 50 % of a massive community fear opening their mouths. The other point in the defense of the messages was that it's just the internet, if you actually take things on the internet seriously then you're doing it wrong etc. But the fact of the matter is that somewhere in the world, there is another person on the side of that keyboard who actually holds these opinions, people who actually think that what they're saying is reflecting some repressed opinion that all men hold but are too dominated to utter. These are the people who are dangerous, and these are the people who likeminded people gravitate towards, and cracking jokes about it and making flashes like these only serve to make light of an issue that should be taken seriously. It's perfectly fine to joke about a subject, it is not perfectly fine to turn the subject into the joke. And that's what's happening here, people no longer wish to deal with this woman attempting to shine some light on an issue she cares about, all they wish to do is suppress her opinion so they won't have to deal with it and they're using her gender as a weapon (Mind you, there have been perfectly valid counter-arguments to her cause, but I'm not trying to make the point that her opinion is 100 % valid, only that the way some people have gone about refuting her stance is sickening.) Don't pretend that's not disgusting.
she's just being incredibly nit-picky and ignoring positive traits to accentuate the negative.
no she's just being a critic. her topics and criticism didn't just come out from nowhere:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminist_literary_criticism
this is a long line of an established critical method, and now she's trying to apply it to videogames.
the point of these videos i think has been completely misunderstood because everyone thinks they are an assessment of videogame's value. they're not, they're just one critical viewpoint of a medium.
what do you call someone who disagrees that nothing is worthwhile but does believe that everyone has ulterior motives
a little paranoid.
um how can you even begin to disagree with this unless you're a massive misogynist

The words are insults, plain and simple, with only a slight difference (at least in the US, where words are just words). You see, in the real world, not all women are constantly insulted and feel oppressed by men daily, and if you got of the internet and stopped white-knighting you'd see that. The way you use them is the connotation, not the word themselves. If I call my friends, girl or guy, hell, even my girlfriend, a "dick" or a "cunt" it matters how I said it, not which word I chose.
1. Girlfriend pours water on my head to wake me up "Hey, don't be such a ----."
2. Friends talk bad about some person they met at work "Guys, stop being ----s."
3. Some guy bumps into me at a restaurant and spills my drink "What a ----."'
Replace the lines with the words and they'll work, and no one will be more offended depending on which you choose.
If you take the actual word as the literal connotation, and not the way it's used, then you're ignorant.

but literary criticism is a cancer on academia

there's nothing wrong with questioning motives. you don't know for certain, why would anyone possibly assume that a particular motive is 100% right without even having any citation that would assume so?
did someone give justin beiber this much attention when a justin beiber punch up game happened
because, you know, equality.
Because nobody gives a shit about justin bieber
but literary criticism is a cancer on academia
literary criticism is the assumption that a book has more value beyond "oh that was a nice story".
as someone who has been in academia i don't see it how that's cancerous.

well there's a difference between questioning someone's motive and assuming that they must be out to earn money.

well not necessarily money but out to gain something, usually status
is this a foreign concept to you? it's how I perceive all social interactions
um how can you even begin to disagree with this unless you're a massive misogynist

If only there were some word for for vagina which was similarly offensive to dick so we wouldn't have this STUPID, STUPID argument OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
I don't even care what the outcome is but it's just so futile.
As for the kickstarter, it's really surprising to see how much of a backlash there is against it. I mean when I first saw the video talking about why we probably didn't need this documentary I more or less agreed with it but hey, it's not my money that they're spending on it so why would I be against it being made? Who knows, it might actually turn out alright.
The flash game is unacceptable, but I can't help but think that attention is exactly what the creator wants. The best course of action is to not give it to them.
