You don't know if he's male OR a gamer. Stop making assumptions.
it's safe to assume that somebody who states that they don't care about misogyny is a male if he isn't a male his post is even more despicable so idk what you're getting at
then why the fuck are you having a go at me?
I'm not literally asking you for a paper with a massive sample size and a miniscule p-value, cited by half the scientific community to back up all of you claims. all I'm asking is that when you make a factual claim you provide a way for it to be falsified upon request.
well physical strength is the only one i couldn't argue about off the top of my head, but wealth and status are man-made conceptions. for many many many many years these weren't even concepts and they certainly are not concepts that our genetic forefathers developed.
status didn't exist to the extent it didn't have a name. it's a social construction but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and it certainly did influence the optimisation process by which individuals are selected
but innate characteristic is an incredibly self-serving term. instinct is an actual concept in biology and behavioral science, innate characteristic is not.
okay, what word would you use to point at something with the following definition: "a behavioral or psychological trait which is significantly, but not necessarily exclusively, influenced by hereditary (read: genetic) factors"?
A society which views women as sexual objects is a society that doesn't see giving equal political rights to women as something important; it's a society in which men feel that, since women are just "objects", they are allowed to victimize them; it's a society that doesn't take women seriously when they attempt to speak for themselves (hence internet nerds fantasizing about committing acts of violence on some woman who wants to make a documentary). It's all connected. This is why objectification of women in the media is such a big deal. It's not just giving male consumers "what they want", it's part of a larger system of violence and oppression.
i'm saying that the reason it exists isn't some kind of global conspiracy by men to keep women down
well i think that's great because no-one suggested that kind of global conspiracy existed.
unless of course he has a fetish or comes from a culture which has vastly different views on sexual attraction.
it's safe to assume that somebody who states that they don't care about misogyny is a male if he isn't a male his post is even more despicable so idk what you're getting at
It's not misogyny, and he never said that he didn't care about it. This is about someone making a beat-em-up against someone because he(or she) didn't like the point the other person was making. The person that made this hates the person, and that person that he hates happens to be female. This doesn't mean for certain that the person is misogynistic. The reason this is bad is because it A. doesn't help the point, and B. is just plain old rude. Edit: Stop acting like your extreme opinions are the only correct ones.
i don't get it
here's what to get: this dumb evopsych argument y'all are on about is fucking pointless. I don't give a shit about what's "natural". We're not "natural", we live in a highly developed society and we should be able to influence what our society does and does not value.
i don't get it [editline]8th July 2012[/editline] look up
You all fail to realize that on a purely instinctual term, women are attracted to wealth, status, and strength. That definition of wealth and status is defined by culture, but it doesn't change that women are still attracted to those concepts.

Any form of constructive criticism, even from fellow women, is either ignored or labelled to be sexist against her. She claims to want gender equality in video games, but in reality, she just wants to use the fact that she was born with a vagina to get free money and sympathy from everyone who crosses her path.
how is this not misogynistic?
Stop acting like your extreme opinions are the only correct ones.
the fact that you disagree with my opinions does not make them extreme
Stop acting like your extreme opinions are the only correct ones.
stop acting like you have fucking anything worth reading to say. If you think your shitty "the answer is somewhere in the middle" cop-out opinion is so valid and meritorious then you can make your own thread where you and every other milquetoast nerdlinger can touch each others butts instead of spamming it in this one.
um how is this not misogynistic?
He doesn't say he hates women, nor does he say he hates her or her purpose. He hates the way she's going about achieving that. Stop making any dislike of anything related to women some sort of Misogyny. "Call a guy a dick" totally fine. "Call a girl a bitch" oh wow dude, you're such a misogynist. [editline]8th July 2012[/editline]
then how do you explain women that aren't attracted to wealth status and strength?
Give me an example of such.
He doesn't say he hates women, nor does he say he hates her or her purpose. He hates the way she's going about achieving that.
he doesn't have to say it for it to be true, dude. His explanation for why he thinks she's "going about it wrong" is fucking misogynist. It's based on misogynist attitudes

In video games men are portrayed as perfect muscle mountains that wrestle Kodiak bears and always act hardcore. You don't see people complaining about that. Basically fuck off with the misogyny shit, people want to see perfect people if they can, which means very fit men and very fit and hot women. If the portrayal of women in videogames is discriminatory, so is the portrayal of men, because both are being portrayed as what society sees as perfect (or at least very good) at the moment. Don't pull the "but it's always women saving men!" shit. It's not true as there are plenty of useless male characters in games, most of the gaming audience is male (don't bring in the Farmville demographics please, it's not that kind of game that is being discussed) so the hero is therefore male (it has nothing to do with discrimination), and to be honest males are instinctively leaning more towards combat than females so that a higher percentage of males fight compared to the female one is just being realistic.
um how is this not misogynistic?
Because (s)he's not hating all women, only that particular one. (s)he may or may not by misogynistic, but that comment shows nothing either way.
the fact that you disagree with my opinions does not make them extreme
Almost everyone disagrees with them, and they ARE extreme.
In video games men are portrayed as perfect muscle mountains that wrestle Kodiak bears and always act hardcore. You don't see people complaining about that.
because they're male power fantasies created by men for men
[sub][sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]ha[/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub][sub]
You better fix that before someone quotes it
i don't get it
the entire debate has been about how games use sexual attraction as a way to sell games. whenever someone objects to that, there's always the response, like there is now, that it's instinct or normal human behavior. to that i have to ask, are there any games that sexualize the Maasai ideal? no, because the games are made in the West with its own different sexual characteristics.
because they're male power fantasies created by men for men
Yes and looking like a top model that can have any man she wants and have the prince save her totally is not the female fantasy.
"I want it to be true therefore it is"
Thhbbbbbt
Give me an example of such.
examples of women not attracted to wealth, status, or strength?? probably every single woman i've dated lol
Yes and looking like a top model that can have any man she wants and have the prince save her totally is not the female fantasy.
Yes? Some women want to be doctors or mothers and not some fucking sex fantasy.
Yes and looking like a top model that can have any man she wants and have the prince save her totally is not the female fantasy.
that is a direct result of misogyny
the entire debate has been about how games use sexual attraction as a way to sell games. whenever someone objects to that, there's always the response, like there is now, that it's instinct or normal human behavior. to that i have to ask, are there any games that sexualize the Maasai ideal? no, because the games are made in the West with its own different sexual characteristics.
am I missing something because I can't see that much difference
because they're male power fantasies created by men for men
Um, when did man create all these fantasies of power and prestige, because they, like the attraction of women to status and strength, have been around since the dawn of man.
