The Earth doesn't revolve around the sun, people still believe We have germ theory, people still believe We know about Earth-like exoplanets, people still believe We have a well established fossil record in support of evolution, and a solid mechanistic understanding of the process, people still believe... etc It doesn't matter what proof there is to the contrary, people will always justify religion with whatever excuse they need to combat the dissonance in their hearts. Religion gives people a sense of community and identity, and it's very hard to separate people from those things.
