I would agree with The Economist, Hollande is a rather dangerous man, and I bet many of you who support him here won't be equally optimistic in 4 years. One thing is for sure, with Hollande, the debt will increase dramatically by raised pension ages and loads of spending. No cuts in the budget will be made at all, and a sick 75% income tax on people earning over 1 million euro per year won't nearly cover the costs of government.
Except in pretty much every single case of recession, increased spending has been the way out. We spend like crazy now and tax like crazy when things are better. Unfortunately Hollande still wants to keep parts of austerity, but at least he's telling Merkel to piss off. Its a shame Melenchon didn't get in, France would pick up pretty damn fast. [editline]9th May 2012[/editline]
That is scary news, not just for France or Europe, but the world. He wants to implement government intervention policies - raising the minimum wage (raise unemployment), increase in spending (increase debt, decrease purchasing power of the taxpayer who has to pay for it) and pay for it with excessive tax increases, the brunt of which will be focused on the rich and the banks. He wants to implement make-work policies by hiring back thousands of laid off workers who were let go due to spending cuts. This is encouraging inefficiency in a misguided attempt to stimulate the economy. It will lead to people working in places where there is no need of their services, just for the sake of giving them work. It will increase waste and inefficiency. The incredible tax increases on the rich will encourage them to downsize their businesses to avoid the higher taxes (raising unemployment) and hoard cash for a rainy day instead of investing it, in fear of future government intervention in the market. Tax increases on the banks will encourage them to leave France and operate in other EU countries, which will then inspire an EU-wide tax increase for banks to prevent them from escaping the tax. The banks will be weakened, their lending capacity will be reduced. His policies against the banks are a threat to the stability of the euro, and therefore to the stability of the world markets.
I don't understand fiscal conservatives... You talk about how jobs have to stay in the country, but you support free trade. That just goes against all logic. Also you talk about unemployment being a bad thing even though its what gives companies the ability to treat workers like shit. Increasing spending during times of recession is the only way to stimulate the economy. Private banks are full of shit anyway, they brought us into this mess and they should suffer because of it.
This honestly suprised me. The french are pretty racist. E.g. Pieds noirs. (Black foot.) One of my friends is arabic and we're wonder what's going to happen to him when we head to france.
Socialists are more likely to hate Jews while the extreme right tend to hate Muslims. Its not like Nazi style or anything but it's still a big problem
How are they going to have more money? The net income the business earns is what is going to be taxed away, they don't have a choice.
We are discussing tax on personal income, not tax on business.
The company owner already is paying back for these services just like everyone else at a normal tax level. I'm asking why it's right to raise the tax to 75-90% levels.
To ensure that taxation doesn't harm people's private economy to the point where they can't provide for themselves, taxation needs to be progressive. As high income takers don't need all of their income to survive and develop, unlike people in the lower classes, they are more able to fund the state. If the taxes for the rich were lowered, it would mean that the taxes for the low income classes has to be raised or that the state has to get cut down. Both of these affect the lower classes far more than the higher classes, because high income earners can afford buying education, health care etc., whereas the lower income earners have to depend on welfare for that.
Socialists are more likely to hate Jews while the extreme right tend to hate Muslims. Its not like Nazi style or anything but it's still a big problem
Now that's just ridiculous. I can agree on the extreme right part (their real goal isn't to kick every muslim out of France tho, more like stopping the mass immigration from north Africa) but Socialists are nowhere near hating jews, nor anyone for that matter. One of the thing we reproach to them is being waaay too laxist on communitarianism problems, spending the gov's funds for stuff that will be burned in the suburbs by a bunch of retards instead of spending it on law enforcement.
I read an article about anti Jew protests and attacks against Jews, and it is a phenomenon concentrated mostly in the left side of political ideology. Most of them are anti Semite because they hate Israel.

Nothing will happen to your friend, he'll maybe get looked down on by old people that only sees arabic people on TV, but that's it.

Just don't go to any shitty neighborhood in Paris and he'll be fine. A number that spiked in 2003, when the Iraq war started (fun fact, polling stations found that 30% of the French wanted the USA to lose against Saddam since they saw the USA acting as Israel's puppet).

It's sad. And obviously it is not a general trend. Most French people do not attack or hate certain groups, just like most Americans don't attack or hate certain peoples.
well, i find it very ironic that left wingers (who's ideals are generally pacifistic and anti-racist) would be looking for excuses to attack jews.
Fucking hardly. Shit left- and right-wing are dumb terms anyway but I'm tired and need a shower so eh.
