I know a few people that got fed up with the people they met and lived around so they picked up and moved away to turn over a new leaf where they didn't know anyone. And the people I know that did this were mostly good people but got into the wrong group of friends. This type of shit should be illegal.
I hate a lot of people, I like the idea

From the website:
An Ode to Courage: Innovators are often put down because people are scared and they don’t understand. We are bold innovators and sending big waves into motion and we will not apologize for that because we love you enough to give you this gift. We know you are amazing, special, and unique individuals and most likely would never shout that from the rooftops. The people who know you will though…they choose to be around you and in your life and support you even when you don’t like yourself. We have come so far as a society but in a digital world we are becoming so disconnected and lonely. You deserve better and to have more abundance, joy, and real authentic connections. You deserve to make better decisions with more information to protect your children and your biggest assets. You have worked so hard to get the reputation you have among the people that know you. As innovators we want to make your life better and have the opportunity to prove how great it feels to be loved by so many in a public space. We are a positivity app launching in November 2015. Whether you love us or our concept or not; we still welcome everyone to explore this online village of love and abundance for all.
This is terrifying.
If this isn't already illegal it needs to be.
Why. Why is a system that brings shit like this into the world allowed, let alone deserve to exist?

I'm having a really hard time telling if this is childish optimism, insane stupidity, or just the usual bullshit companies and startups try to trick you with. "We are the bold, misunderstood innovators!" Yeah, because the world needs more ways for people to be shitty to each other.
P.S: Fuck Silicon valley in its wi-fi enabled mouth.

I can't say this is even all that unexpected at this point. Our world is more populated that it's ever been and yet isolation is an epidemic. Humans aren't social creatures anymore; many people prefer to do all their "outward" socializing online and reserve real-life interaction to their own circles. It seems that folks are utterly terrified and distrustful of strangers if there isn't a screen and internet connection between them, and even then...
I mean, consider walking out into the hustle and bustle of a city and still feeling utterly alone. All those people walking around you are living their own lives just as you are and there's now an unspoken rule that those lives aren't to intersect unless there's a good reason for it. A person you don't know walks up to you and the immediate assumption is they're up to no good. Do they want money? Are they going to mug you? Rape you? Kill you? Why are they bothering you? Key word - bothering. Anyone in ahead of you in line is an idiot whose problems aren't as important as yours; hurry up, idiot. Anyone sharing the road with you is a douchebag making your commute miserable; get off the road and go hang yourself. It seems the default relationship between strangers these days is one of hostility and it's best to avoid any real-life interaction with them as possible, and even on the internet the general atmosphere is sarcasm and vitriol. You may not personally feel that way but it certainly seems that most people do. Everyone is afraid anymore; this is the post-9/11 world of paranoia and isolation we've let ourselves fall into.
Humans these days just hate each other, and this is just another means for us all to compartmentalize everyone else unless they become "needed" in our lives. Why wouldn't we rate people in this day and age? Everyone - like everything - is just another app or gadget to be used and this leads us to the highest-quality products. Everything is just an equation, and let's optimize it. It's the same thinking behind corporations treating us like cattle or lab-rats.
And yet people wonder why they're lonely.
I think this is inevitably going to fail. If it is real, then everyone hates it and will demand for it to be taken down. If it isn't taken down, the creators wouldn't be able to withstand the gauntlet of lawsuits. What company would even want to host this app? I doubt Google is going to go up and be like hey, this app that basically ruins the idea of privacy is totally fine with us.
The internet is the best/worst invention ever. Whatever happened to people just not being scared of voicing what they want to say without a screen in front of them?

"positivity app" lol
this paragraph sounds like some kinda cult initiation speech
Everyone should rate her poorly

Welcome to the new class of entrepreneurs, where anything disruptive is seen as a good thing.
This seems like something that would be a radio commercial in a GTA game. Real life just seems to be devolving into a parody of itself and nobody realizes it.
I love how they ask for feedback but can't accept criticism. Just like everyone else in this day and age.
Just accept that people don't want anything to do with this invasion of privacy shit. Social media violates it thoroughly enough, they don't need help.

So apparently the concept of their own app doesn't sit well with them.
It's only matter of time before someone hacks them and forces them to shut this down :v:

reminds me of this community episode
Snopes thinks this might be one elaborate hoax due to the currently known timeline of events.
To be fair. People aren't products or objects meant to satisfy us or be appealing to us.
Rating the service provided by a person is different than rating the person as a whole. If you're looking for someone to provide a service for you, I'm pretty sure there's already sites and apps dedicated for that, and they include ratings too (based on their quality of service).
Saying you like someone does not confirm I will like that person or not, nor dictates the intentions of that person. Where I live there are people who praise and admire dangerous criminals and gang members, some people actually see them as role models... it does not mean they're good or anything like that.
The way that I see it, this can go two ways:
- This is fake, and the backlash will serve as a message to everyone except Silicon Valley.
- This is real, and everyone will learn from their mistakes, except Silicon Valley.
Basically, I just see someone else trying to do this afterwards even if it eats dirt.
Community made an episode about this kind of thing over a year ago.
Apps like this just create cliques and bleed into out rage culture

seems like the last couple of years it has been becoming more and more a parody and it really seems to be boiling over this year
Soon enough, relationships will be held solely online aswell.
The idea of this taking off and becoming central to culture makes me think of a Black Mirror episode...
Update: As of 4 October 2015 Peeple’s Facebook and Twitter pages were inaccessible or deleted, and an Instagram account linked by their site was set to private. On the same day, Cordray published a note to LinkedIn titled “I Became a Trending Topic for the Wrong Reasons. Here’s Why We need Peeple, the Positivity App I’m Building.”
She's trying to play it off like negativity wasn't going to be allowed in the first place, but she clearly stated in the past that it would be useless without negativity.
