When I lived in the South, I encountered a lot of racism, especially in the wealthy neighborhood in which I lived.

The south in general is more racist than the north. That's a simple fact. I don't think the south is a horrible place, and there are definitely very nice people there, but I won't deny that it has more racists than up north.

Coming from the south tip of the southern most state can I say that there isn't as much racial tension here as people think. Our schools are actually very integrated and while growing up almost every one here gets along well.
I add for redneck awareness that you don't see rednecks until you get up to Arkansas. Any racist rednecks south of that are pretty much isolated cells.
Slavery is what made blacks be seen as animals and sub-human. That is still a major problem today, especially in the south. Face it, there is still a lot of racism going on today, it's something that is in our nature as humans. Just because we don't own slaves doesn't mean there aren't racial problems anymore. Ignoring that fact is deadly, because it sets us up to fall right back into the hole we have barely climbed out of.
Excluding white people from a simple field trip isn't the way to get rid of racism though. We need to stop looking at people and thinking "That person's white" or "That person's black" and just think of eachother as fucking humans. Face it, giving ANY race special treatment because of something that the majority of them have not experienced at any point in their lifetime (Slavery) is just ridiculous.
Why do black people get special treatment?
Where is our "White History Day"?
But no, If we had something special for WHITE kids, the principle, some teachers, and the person that set it up, would be replaced with less "Racist" people, which pretty much means: Do everything to help black people, Do the average for white people.
I hate political correctness.
And this is not racist, it is just stating that black people do get special treatment, just for being black.
Exactly. Ignoring racism is like sticking our fingers in our ears and going "LALALALA".
This is kind of off topic, But how on earth did you join 3 months ago, and have 3,777 posts?
Welcome to America. This shit happens all the time. Just look at Affirmative Action.

It's not that hard. Just make quality posts and don't do stupid shit that gets you banned.
I'm still curious how things like this and <insert one race only> programs are morally justifiable.
I have no problem of people celebrating their heritage, I just hate the fact that schools ban caucasian/white heritage groups, its such a double standard.
I hate racism of all forms.

There's no such thing as white heritage. Black and Asian heritage are iffy enough. Whites have German, Italian, French, Spanish, English, and many many others, which are all very different from each other.
I agree with you, to a point.
But, the way it's taught, it's almost to the point of saying "All white people will always be abusive towards minorities". You can't blame the people of today for the people of yesterday's problems.
Except they're not "yesterday's problems." European colonialism has left Africa and Middle East volatile third-world trash-heaps where violence is everywhere and people regularly go hungry. America is still rife with racism and segregation.
No, the people of today didn't ask for the world they inherited, but many of your and my privileges were and still are built on the backs of other people's suffering. To pretend those problems are all a thing of the past and have no bearing or influence on the world today is at best ignorant and at worst almost criminally irresponsible.
America is still rife with racism and segregation.
But if we pretend the problem doesn't exist, it'll magically go away!
