I'm sorry to say, but the last thing Gary needs is a fucking Michael Jackson park. I know that yes, he was a great pop icon, hell, I even like some of his stuff, but the fact is, Gary doesn't need a Michael Jackson park. Gary needs HELP. For those of you that don't know, Gary still has a high rate of homicides per capita, and if I remember right, in 2004 it was #1 in the world. There's about 100,000 people in Gary.
And don't get me started on Mayor Rudy Clay. My father is a firefighter in Gary, has been since the early 80's. He's worked there all his life. In 2008, Members of the fire department were forced to take a 20% pay cut. When that was found illegal, Clay then laid off 13 or 14 people, and the remaining people were either sometimes forced to take a furlough day, or just not report due to under-manning. Every day when I listen to my radio, there is a sort of 'roll call'. It's sickening to hear "Out-of-service" more than eight times. Why? Because some of the rigs are in pathetic shape. Sometimes there's not enough people on a shift to even man a station. Overtime pay is non-existent, so when the time for shift change comes around, there's usually only about 5 rigs available until enough people arrive. And it's not only the rigs that are in bad shape, it's also their equipment. Turnout gear, the stuff worn by firefighers, is normally tan/light tan. You look at them operating at a fire, and some of the firefighers are wearing turnout gear that's dark brown, even black(Which is a sign that the gear is weakened, and won't offer nearly as much protection.)And some of them don't even wear their gear at all.
And this is only the fire department I'm talking about. Think about the citizens, they're paying double digit taxes for piddly-ass mayor clay to drive around in his Hummer H3, they receive less-than-adequate public services, and the city's still a shithole. Is a michael jackson park REALLY needed?

He forgot to talk about all the steel mills in Gary. So it smells like shit there too.
Gary is a shithole, you do NOT want to go there. Walking through downtown is like fuckin Silent Hill, everything's closed up and abandoned.

I'm more worried about being shot. I've been to Gary, and I won't be going back anytime soon, I tell you what.

Some parts aren't all that bad, but imo, Glen Park is the worst part of Gary... probably both in terms of crime and definitely poverty there, it's sad to think that people actually live in some of those houses.
Nope.
Oh god no.
No I wanna go to the punk rock show! (whoever gets that is awesome)
