Samsung Finally Reveals Why the Note 7 Kept Exploding

I think that phone was run over by a car and didn't get a scratch or something like that
Honestly I feel like thicker phones would be better for cost and for sales. Think of it like this: Thicker phone = more space for internals. More space = less $$$ spent making parts compact as fuck. Less $$$ spent making the phone tiny can also then go towards better hardware. Less R&D cost from said lack of part size shrinking means cheaper end product cost. More space also = More battery space/size/capacity. Cheaper product + Better battery + better hardware = more sales = more money to be had.

I don't think those CATs are very good though, at least older were shit.

otterbox cases are pretty much that picture but for better phones

But how are companies going to release a new phone each year if it's not 0.2 MM thinner?

Meh, it feels like most consumers couldn't give a rat's ass about thinner phones nowadays. 12-16mm seems to be a comfortable standard.
People care more for processor speed, memory and peripherals (to which we've also reached the standard compliment of GPS/GLONASS, NFC, Btooth, WiFi, +8MP Camera, etc).
Phones have become standardized just like personal computers before them.
It was a design flaw that caused a shit storm but Samsung owned up to it every bit and launched a huge investigation to solve it. 700 employees dedicated to finding out what happened, I think they deserve some credit here.

I want one of these, I love the rough edges. Reminds me of Deus Ex or Mass Effect.
Like, seriously fuck off with the boring smooth edges, simplistic shit. It's not design, it's lack of. Take note, companies. I don't give a shit about flat stuff.
Or maybe I'm just a fucking hipster, but my instinct served me well as this thread proves.

I love that it has a built in FLIR imager, but bear in mind you can buy those separately for both iPhone and Android.

No I agree, the rounded bezels (especially on the screens) irritate me to no end. All the rounded shit makes it feel like fucking Fisher Price toys. I'd rather have something angled, sturdy and utilitarian as fuck.

Ignore design, appreciate the functionality. I buy myself phones that fit my need.

I went and got myself a Samsung Xcover 3 last year.
Would have wanted to afford a CAT. Main desire was something durable that looks a lot like the iDroid :v:
My phone's a flat-sided wedge, and it feels as solid as a housebrick.
The Google Pixel isn't the best phone I've ever owned in terms of design, but it's leagues ahead of the iPhone 6 I used to have. 4S is still my favorite smartphone of all time, though.

I'd normally agree with that mentality but when you have phones that sacrifice functionality (which includes durability) for fashion statements (i.e thinness) you have issues like the Note 7, iPhone Bending and cracked screens (especially the rounded bezels. Gorilla glass may be strong, but its no excuse to be lazy with structural design).
There's a reason I'm still sticking with my dumbphone F160, and that its a tank that has lasted me for 6+ years (First phone) through all sorts of abuse w/o a case and a battery that lasts for days up to a week w/o recharge. TBF all I need out of my phone is voice, text, music, camera, navigation and durability but there are very few smartphones that actually stand up to that and aren't glass cannons (i.e. Galaxy S5/Active, etc)

These are considered to be 'work' phones more than anything, so while you might be able to purchase one it will be very expensive.

They're the same price as any other flagship but the specs are pretty bad.
Hopefully phones can start focusing on performance power and extra cool and useful features and less on being a fucking fashion statement.
It's nice when a phone looks good but people are overestimating their importance. Nobody actually cares about the little bright rectangle you keep fiddling with all day.
I don't know about you but I like having something that's nice to look at when I use it.
So having a thicker phone means you dont need to protect your screen?
I got one of those rubbery phone cases, and I'm constantly dropping mine off tables, and in a few cases, threw it up in the air to catch it, missed, and had it land on the pavement, and the screen is still fine.
Cool so Note 8 when?
Also mixed batteries, thats just a bad idea all around. Even people who use vaporizes will wanna slit your throat for using unmarried batteries.
Of course the ONE article I actually want to read wants me to turn off adblock. Ain't happening brother.
Anyways, why do we need "slimmer" phones? I'd rather have a slightly wider phone then one that can overheat.
My Note 5 is fucking tiny, but my case makes it like a full cm thick. Thicker phones'll still fit in pockets if you make them a reasonable thickness.

the popular need appears to be design.
