the original photo had the strand of british flags being torn down from where they were strung up along the building, which made it much more powerful than what it looked like in auction.

it connects a few concepts together, could say something about how even the cheap frivolous things like a cheap strand of flags comes at a cost and [something something] better labor laws and less outsourcing
that's a big thing with banskies, is that you can form a couple ideals from them so people can come to their own conclusions about this stuff
my biggest question here though is how did anybody manage to send that slab of stucco all the way to california without any damage
also looking at the current state of the wall, I'd kind of assume the 'why' also encompasses the people who made the crappy thieves stencil and slapped on a purple dinosaur. It's like metavandalization
I think the original had something to do with the jubilee / the olympics, since the whole of London was covered in flags like that, it was maybe pointing to the fact we were throwing billions on these celebrations while importing cheap flags made by kids in poorer countries

He still most likely lifted his style from Blek though, a lot of his shit, especially the earlier ones are VERY similar to Bleks.

I think it's more a picture of a kid making flags.
I never was one for media studies.
What is this?

The article says:
"London Police say Banksy’s real name is Paul William Horner, a 39-year old male born in Bristol, England. The BBC has also confirmed this information.."
But there's nothing on the BBC about it...
BBC press release: http://www.prlog.org/12085513-banksy-arrested-in-london-identity-revealed.html
Although I have a feeling this is somehow a hoax.
Yep, that one site created a fake press-release account it looks like:

Whenever Banksy comes up in the news it always makes me think of the time copies of banksy artwork started appearing around the inside of my highschool- was like some big mystery everyone was exited about, becuase the person behind it was never seen on any security cameras.
they only found out who was behind it when the fumes from the spray set off a fire alarm at 5 in the morning, and a caretaker in the same block came running to see what was burning.
the culprit turned out to be my history teacher. :v:
Counterfeit money? What????
banksy made a load of 'counterfeit' art notes with the queen's face graffited over/replaced by stuff and launched them off a tall building in london

It seems like he'd be the kind of guy to do weird radical shit to get kids interested in his subject, like dig a historically-accurate trench in his backyard to simulate WWI battlefield conditions.

That's actually legal, there's a loophole that says if it's slightly different from the original then it can be considered 'novelty', if you go to any seaside resort you'll see people making them:

There's three rules about teachers, the carpentry teacher has to be a stoner, the chemistry teacher has to be at least borderline pyromaniac/cryomaniac, and the history teacher has to secretly be a fucking baller.

We didn't have Carpentry but the Auto Tech teacher ate chalk, does that count?
I loved his work in Half-Life 2

It does seem like an insult to physically remove street art and make a profit off of it.

You have no right to get angry about someone using your work in a way you don't want when you were using their property in a way they don't want in the first place.
If a street artist is going to put his art up without getting permission from the owner of the property, he shouldn't be surprised if they do with the art as they see fit, and that includes tearing it down and selling it. It's hardly protected property if it was never the artist's property to begin with.
But someone else is making money off of something you do for free, for others to see.

to be honest he forfeits it by making it on someone else's property. I don't care if you use frosting to write your name on my cake, I can still serve the cake to whoever I want because I paid for it or baked it or however you want to see it
