Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love - Polidicks

Wait, when your logged in to Facepunch, there are SUPPOSED to be ads? I never knew that. They never appear for me (even without AdBlock). Also, if so many websites didn't use Flash, using up my RAM and CPU, maybe I would be okay with them being on the page?

If some website can't fund itself without adverts then they should shut it down, no skin off my nose. If your only source of income is from adverts then that's too bad, I'm not going to make people money. I never really had a problem with ads so I just don't use adblocker. I mean, some sites have really annoying ads, like digg, but most of the time they're just banner ads.

The bottomline is that there are ALWAYS more websites. If someone like Ars Tech shut down, it's not like there aren't a thousand other tech sites to choose from. That's why website owners have no leverage. Sure the community will miss their site...at first. Then life goes on. I used to be a regular at a lot of sites that have died off. Voodoo Extreme to name one. Guess what? I found other sites to take their place. These website people like to act like they have something so special that "you'll be sorry when it's gone"- no we won't.

Ive noticed websites are fighting back, when I got adblock plus it blocked even the ads in youtube and southparkstudios videos, now the ads arent blocked anymore and it sucks dick.

Like I was gonna pay attention to the ad anyways.

Why doesn't my AdBlock work anymore? I installed a version of Firefox, 3.5 maybe, and even after newer version installs, it never actually blocks the ads.

Last time I checked my adblocker only stopped it from rendering on the page, it still executes javascript and such, it is just literally pasted over.

Nowadays ads will flash, make noises, jump around, cover the page or infect you with malware, possibly all at once. That's pretty fucking hard to ignore. I am not unblocking facepunch ads. I bought garry's mod. Plus, I don't want to wait longer loading times just to see some porn site being advertised on facepunch that I'm not going to go to.
