Some people get pierced at a regular size(16 gauge) and then after the piercing needle is through, the piercers push through a say, 4 gauge taper to stretch the ears to that size almost instantly. I've never heard of ripping the earlobe from this, only your ears no longer "shrink" back to the same size. I seriously don't recommend this. I fucking hate snake bites, worst piercing ever. There's one kid at my school who has two snake bites just far enough apart that I could fit my erect dick between em, and he's massively homophobic. Call me old-fashioned, but I abhor most tattoos and piercings. Anything beyond a small ear piercing is usually a bit much, though on some girls a stud piercing on the side of their nose looks okay. And then no more than one or two piercings, period. I find double-piercing (or more) the same part to not be that attractive. Tattoos follow the same general rule. Small, and only one or two. The quickest way for me to lose interest in a girl is if she has fucking tattoo sleeves on her arms, five god-damn piercings at the top of her ear, and a fucking double-ought gauge in her earlobe. :barf: Of course, I understand different strokes for different folks. Besides ear rings, the only other good kind is like a stud on the upper part of the nostril, only seen that once or twice, but looks ok, not in the cartilage. I think lip piercings are the worst though.
