Barack Obama vows to pursue gun measures in wake of latest massacre

I'm really indecisive about fire arm bans. On the one hand, it would (in theory) reduce the amount of guns available to criminals/future criminals. On the other hand, it keeps guns out of the hands of people that have them for rec use. I sorta feel that it infringes on rights, but it would (once again, in theroy) make things safer.
Then again, making something illegal wont make it go away (see the drug prohibition) and it would keep fire arms out of the hands of law abiding citizens.
But yet, keeping lax laws would make it legal for psychopaths to own a weapon, thus preventing law enforcement from stopping the said psychopath.
Fuck, I just don't know.

?? you wanted me to answer your rhetorical question?
no you're not insane for telling me what's legal, you're insane for thinking that because it's legal, a violent revolution in america is feasible. get help

If they are criminals they can't get their hands on guns with our current regulations.
I always thought it was illegal to purchase vehicles and aircraft currently in service to the U.S. military?
I know people buy fighter jets and tanks, but I've never heard of anyone purchasing any modern tanks and fighters.
I dont think its necessarily illegal, I just think its prohibitively expensive. Plus you'd probably have a hard time convincing the defense firm that makes the vehicles to let you buy one :v:
Im pretty sure most military vehicles owned by civilians are surplus vehicles sold off by the military after they get mothballed

You haven't really shown any proof to say that is infeasible besides "tanks, helicopters, and predator drones" so I don't really see how you can be so sure.

Oh right, inb4 you call me insane and don't provide any logical reasoning.
If they are criminals they can't get their hands on guns with our current regulations.
But it would let the black market get a hold of fire arms straight from the US, as apposed to having to smuggle them over.
You haven't really shown any proof to say that is infeasible besides "tanks, helicopters, and predator drones" so I don't really see how you can be so sure.
because the US military has infinitely more resources, more technology, and more organization at their disposal? drones are a p big deal considering they will literally destroy your rebellion (and your antique tanks) without you having much say in the matter. so ya you're either insane
But it would let the black market get a hold of fire arms straight from the US, as apposed to having to smuggle them over.
But it would also vastly increase the amount of guns on the blackmarket due to the only way to obtain them safely and legally has been taken away.
so yeah theres drones and.. everything else the US military has. everything you can scrounge and struggle to obtain, the military has x1000 in terms of quantity, quality and technological advancement. not to mention proper training for operating the shit and organization
because the US military has infinitely more resources, more technology, and more organization at their disposal? drones are a p big deal considering they will literally destroy your rebellion (and your antique tanks) without you having much say in the matter. so ya you're either insane
Resources and technology are provided by the people y'know, and organization won't exactly be high in such an event.
Also if insurgents in the middle east can hack into drones and bring them down, I am more than sure citizens in the United States could do the same.
But it would also vastly increase the amount of guns on the blackmarket due to the only way to obtain them safely and legally has been taken away.
Once again, this is only in theory. We don't know for a fact that guns will sell the same as drugs do.

you're generally supposed to finish typing before you click reply
but yeah, I think you'd have a pretty hard time convincing soldiers to fire on their own countrymen, especially considering how many soldiers are the "dont-tread-on-me" gadsen flag waving types.
not to mention the fact that using air power/heavy weapons on an rebel force is pretty much political suicide as recent events have proven

p sure the drone hacking event you're referring to was iran's military finding a crashed drone and claiming they "hacked it" but whatever i guess there's no way to convince you that your revolution is doomed to fail and that the voices in your head aren't healthy.

I think its pretty reasonable have a healthy distrust of the government, especially when they are slowly trying to erode away our rights with shit like the PATRIOT act, among other things.

You think that the US Government and military(made up of the people mind you) would willingly kill their own people en mass with bombs and missiles and essentially go on a full genocide to wipe out any form of resistance.
Yet you think I'm the one who is insane?
Last I checked though, when people continually use ad hominem to try and make a point you're typically supposed to ignore them, so maybe I am insane lmao

OH MAN GUYS! He says that a revolution is feasible, I guess he's insane. Better insult him, that'll teach him to mess with us!

What I'm trying to say is that a system of government in which the people are to inherently fear it, or that the government inherently fears the people, is unsustainable.
What I'm trying to say is that a system of government in which the people are to inherently fear it, or that the government inherently fears the people, is unsustainable.
What Jefferson meant by "Government Fears the People", is that he wants a governing body to think twice before stomping on the rights of its citizens (I.E Stamp Act, Tea Act, etc.) less they risk a rebellion. However, that does not mean senators have to sit in their panic rooms sucking their thumbs, it simply means that they have to think about what laws they wish to impose.

Are these seriously the only arguments you can come up with? "Oh man, better say that he's insane, maybe he'll give up"
What I'm trying to say is that a system of government in which the people are to inherently fear it, or that the government inherently fears the people, is unsustainable.
Oh right, I getcha.
Still, a situation where the government doesn't fear the people and the people don't fear the government is pretty much a utopian pipe dream. Unless you can somehow get everyone to think exactly alike

no my points were the stuff that came before that snippet that you decided to quote
ie everything you removed from that quote

Because that's totally what people are saying in this thread. They're saying that if it did happen (which it won't) those who are rising up may have more of a chance at succeeding then those in say a place like Libya or what's going on in Syria.
But go ahead and ignore whatever I say, that helps too.

It's pretty possible to have a system where the government and the people work together in a common interest.
Especially since the government and the people are the same thing, and whenever one is not capable, the system is doomed to failure.

I think you're misinterpreting "just in case" as "orchestrating a coup is on my list of things to do before I die."
