We have a lot of people on one side of the fence saying things like "If guns were gone, these murders would still happen, only in different ways," and people on the other side saying things like "Statistics show that most of the murders are committed with firearms, so let's do away with them."
Now, both sides always use graphs and statistics and examples to back these respective arguments up. I'm not sure which side I should believe, because I'm not sure that I can trust any of the statistics and graphs. There are a ton of variables and conditions, and I'm not sure if we can blame firearms for these numbers. For example, someone posted a graph earlier, trying to defend his stance for gun laws, and somebody responded by saying that the graph also coincided with increased drug related crime in the 90s.
So, in other words, with all these potential variables of culture and time period and other events, can we really trust these statistics to support or refute arguments about gun crime?

Then there is the fact that even military personnel will murder, and police as well. They are people just like everyone else. So why should they alone have the right to own weapons?

This is never going to happen. This is an insane belief and and an insane justification. It is never going to go the all Orwellian, it's a totally unjustified and barbaric thought process propagated a very long time ago when we weren't as civilized and safe. Oh okay then let me clarify. Nobody who is a citizen that isn't also a police officer, or in the military, should own any kind of gun. If they use it for hobby, they should find a hobby that doesn't require lethal weapons created to murder people.
