Girlclaims to suffer from PTSD and Tourette's Syndrome after price scanner pointed at her
Uh i operate a wireless price gun every day. The red scanner hits my hands all the time, it is almost impossible to burn yourself on these fucking things. All these things do is read a UPC number, it does mathematical calculations to get the whole item number. To read the code all it does is reflect light off of the UPC code, nothing else. It isn't going to burn you or hurt you. The only way i can possibly picture getting hurt by something like this is to point the light in to your eyes. Other then that this is just stupid.
Would a red led to the eye really burn? I have a feeling that you could scan the shit out of your eyes till the cows come home and nothing would ever happen.

No it wouldn't burn, its just light. It might be bothersome, even uncomfortable. But it wouldn't do permanent damage, just depends on the person. Some people's eyes are more sensitive to light then others.
If they did any of the things that girl said it did to her companies wouldn't use them, for example my work has so many fucking safety rules it is ridiculous, if one thing is out of place or we have one thing that isn't approved by the company and store we will get fined for 15,000-50,000 USD easily. Companies look in to tools and products that are safe to use, because we know there are people like that girl who look for a easy way to get money. It is all about keeping costs low and protecting the company..hell people even look for little water spills to walk though and slip on so they can sue.

Well I went over a speed bump yesterday and now I have a tumor on my thigh. This story sounds plausible.
I'm was watching TV the other day, and the LED's gave my aids.

Somebody find this man a lawyer! :siren:

Scam others the american way and dream.
Vampires: confirmed truth
Well, a lot of scanners uses low power lasers, so they do emit light. But the laser power is <1mW, which means it would be impossible to blind yourself with it, even with extremely long exposure times. And burning would take at least 60-70mW minimum. I call BS on the bitch's story.
That's what convinced you? It wasn't the fact that you can't out of fucking nowhere, develop Tourette's Syndrome. Or that PTSD or cause by Life changing event's like DEATH or severe things like that, not fucking price scanners. People like this piss me off, I hope their house explodes with them in it.
There's no way you could be that sensitive to light. It's just impossible.
That or natural selection got rid of anyone who was.
Really now, can that even be checked. I mean, really?
Fuckin' greedy Americans.
How did they ever find a lawyer to take this ridiculous case.
How did they ever find a lawyer to take this ridiculous case.
Thats not very hard.
How did they ever find a lawyer to take this ridiculous case.
It'll cost less for the store to settle than successfully defend the legal case; therefore the family gets some money.
I wish that people who claim "certain lights burn me" would be strapped to a wall and have a CO2 laser shown at them, FEEL THE BURN FUCKING PUSSIES!
Also really? A fucking scanner? We have those at my school for lunch ID's and my hand triggers the scanner, I don't get burned. Just sounds like her mother just wants some money. The store should go to court, and try to hold them for any legal fees of any kind.
I just can't stand this bs.
/rage
I'm absolutely fucking sick and tired of these "get rich quick, sue for everything" assholes of the US and planet. Only time i would sue is to get back at some assholes and get a fourth of their paycheck for the rest of their lives.
There is no way an LED scanner could cause that. If she's photosensitive enough that a couple milliwatts causes burns, she'd burst into flame in bright sunlight.
Judge threw the case out.
Yay for justice!
An Erie County judge today ruled for Country Fair and threw out the civil case of a girl who claimed she suffered injuries from a hand-operated bar-code scanner at one of the convenience stores.
Judge Ernest J. DiSantis Jr. ruled during the jury trial over the suit. The trial started Monday.
DiSantis granted Country Fair Inc.'s motion for a nonsuit, in which a defendant in a civil case argues the plaintiff failed to make a case to the jury.
The main plaintiff was Dominica Juliano, who was 12 years old when she and her grandmother visited the Country Fair at West 18th and Sassafras streets in June 2004.
Dominica and her guardian, Ginnisue Juliano, claimed in the suit that a store clerk, trying to get Dominica to smile, waved the scanner over the girl's face, and that the girl suffered facial burns and, later, severe psychological problems.
The lawyer for Country Fair, Bruce Decker, of Erie, argued that the scanner is an LED light and not a laser, and it could not have caused the injuries to Dominica.
I already found it awesome that she remembered the event... I already forgot what I have eaten yesterday.
This reminds me of that thread were a guy claimed he had "electromagnetic sensitivity" and sued his neighbor for using wi-fi devices.

Makes me proud to be an American. :v:
Yeah, but would you sue them for a fuckload of money and claim it caused PTSD and Tourette's?
How does a barcode scanner give you PTSD though, I don't really understand that. Do those people actually know what PTSD is and how it's caused?
Good thing it wasn't an order gun or we'd have to deal with a whole pallet of these girls
What a little bitch.
